Why does the front camera view have that dark, partially opaque geometry at the top? What is it suppose to signify?

    Oooh look, another mod.....

So it's pretty much used so you don't use it to see vehicles further away since it's misleading. I can attest to that as I installed a front camera and vehicles seem much further away when looking through the camera. If you used it to drive, you would not be able to stop in time.

Hmm doesn’t make sense.. the front camera view only comes on while speed is less than 10mph.

where did you find that documentation on the MTM overlay?

I had this on my 2021 Tacoma, and the bottom of the black tab equaled about 10 feet away (I think? It may have been 15) from the front bumper. So it helps measure distance. All Toyota's have it. You're not alone in hating how it's setup.

The blue bracket lines are there for distance measuring. The black triangle is there for one reason only: to make sure you don't use it to drive the vehicle forward, essentially blocking the view. Said a different way, the legal team at Toyota thinks you'll drive the vehicle into something and sue them if they let you use the camera for serious forward viz. That's a shame as it makes it essentially useless for trails and so does the low resolution of the camera itself.

Compare to the Land Rover front view (no triangle to intentionally block part of the view):

The cameras are useful when launching a boat and parking the vehicle in tight spots. Not sure the added $850 on the sticker for the premium plus package is worth it, but salesman discounted MSRP $3100 my ORP purchase. I can live with the poor quality image resolution.
