Hello folks. New member here, and I'm coming out of the gate asking some questions. I have a 91 SR5 5 speed 4wd 4runner. On colder mornings, I have a pretty good racket that corelates with the speedometer. I replaced the cable recently with a new one, and the noise is still there. I'm guessing that the noise is coming from the speedometer it's self. Has anybody had any luck with taking the guts apart and repairing the noise? Will a non SR5 speedo guts work in a SR5 cluster? I know eBay is a source for a cluster or may be lucky enough to find one in a local pull a part. Just looking for options. Anyways any input is appreciated

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
All 4Runners of the 2nd generation are SR5, unlike the 1st generation.

I think the automatic transmissions has an electric speedo and the manuals have cable but not sure of that.

Does anybody know if the guts from a pickup truck that just has the speedo work in the speedo of a cluster with a tach?

Why does it say unitized body? It is Body on Frame isn't it?

I think I was mistaken, pretty sure now the AT and manual 4Rs both have cable driven speedometers.

That is not true. Though a majority of 2nd gens are SR5's not all are. There are base models that have manual windows as well as Limited models in 1995
Also not true (saw you did correct later) Both configurations could come in both a cable or electronic driven speedometer. There is no exact science to what model would have electronic vs cable. I've seen 92's with electronic, and I own a 95 with cable.

OP I have a complete gauge clusters for sale. Let me know if you are interested

I own a total stripper 1990 22RE/5spd base model from new(left-over-one-at-this-price) and it is a SR5, look at the Toyota sales brochure I posted. I have the full gauge cluster. NO power ANYTHING except the back window. No cruise control, no intermittent wipers-hi/low that’s all, Zero options, you can take the doors off without unhooking any wires. I paid $13,999 new and made a deal to buy the OEM AC kit, cargo mat and roof rack at dealer cost.
What you are saying is true for the all of the 1st gen 4R & PU and 2nd gen PU but not for the 2nd gen 4Runners.
EDIT: it did have a option…..AM/FM radio.
I think the Limited trim didn’t start until the 3rd gen(1996).

1995's was the first year for a limited. As for the speedo, my 92 is electronic.
