What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

After having installed the remote 8-channel DC control I've located the control pad where most everyone does...that flat section to the left of the steering column. But after this last trip I thought about how that location requires me to do a sit-up like maneuver in order to reach it. So I did some thinking and designed a new plate to locate the touchpad up on the overhead console.

This location placed the control pad within easy reach and without needing to do any shifting in my seat, just an easy reach upwards.

I'm tempted to redesign a complete replacement for the overhead console and integrate the touchpad as a complete unit...

 

A tik tik sound normally points to debris inside the fan. Remove the fan and clean it.
Remove the cabin filter to see if it has any large leaves stuck inside.

I noticed the LED panel for the map lights. So exactly how bright is that panel with all those LED chips?! Do you need to wear sunglasses at night looking at them?!

 

Sunglasses and SPF +20! Seriously though, if I have the doors open there's no need for puddle lights (IMHO) they are that bright. I'm glad these have a red-light mode...

 

This looks so good! I wish Victory 4x4 didn't change the front Blitz bumper (now has a bolt on light cover/bezel and tube is bolt on)

That's a lot of money for tail lights...for the same amount of money, one could get an Airaid intake and an MBRP cat-back...

 

I agree. It is a lot of money for tail lights, but I recouped back some of the cost (about $200) by selling my OEM's on this site. That took the sting out of it, a little bit. I wouldn't want an aftermarket intake because I think they're pointless.

I have different needs & wants than you do. No biggie.

Thanks again for your write-up. Ended up not needing to drop the fan assembly since I discovered that I was overdue to change out the cabin air filter. The tic-tic sound was definitely caused by debris, especially that acorn which rattled around like a roulette wheel ball in the fan unit!

Note to self: Check the cabin filter more often!

Ordered some wheels a couple days ago. Installed Weathertech floormats and a Scan Gauge II to monitor trans temp, water temp, and voltage last week.

 

Ordered online $300 worth of roof rack wiring, KC wire concealment, 6 bar clamp mounts, battery terminal connector splitter w/ LED display voltmeter, more.

 

Picked it up today

 

Sweet rig. Now...tomorrow drive it over to Discount Tire and pick up some better looking tires. Those street tires gotta' go.

I'm thinking of installing a CO2 fire extinguisher in my 4Runner. Mounted in front of the passenger seat looks like a good location. But CO2 extinguishers are 5 lbs. (and larger). Apparently, no one makes 2 1/2 lb. CO2 extinguishers.

Is a 5 lb. extinguisher too big to be mounted in front of the drivers seat?

I have two of these Kidde Pro 110 (Class 1A:10B:C) in my rig and just checked, fits width-wise (with about 4" to spare width-wise). I currently have one mounted under the drivers seat and the other on one of the rear Molle Panels.

They do have a CO2 version (Pro 5) that's 2" taller (longer) but also 5.25" dia. vs 3.25" dia., I don't think it'll impinge upon leg space but you may want to check the vertical clearance in your rig just to be sure (taking into account what mounting bracketry you choose.)

 

I just did a 2-1/2lb on the side of driver seat.
5lb in front of passenger seat imo is better than in front of driver.
5lb CO2 fire extinguisher becoming airborne in a wreck would suck, prolly is a risk.

Ordered and received some Caltrend seat covers. Got the Duraplus version- I wanted something waterproof and durable. I read the DuraPlus were recommended for people with dogs/ dog hair. Seems like they'll be easy to wipe down or vacuum. Not fancy looking. It's Cordura. The "upholstery" type we got in our Crosstrek is pretty hot in the summer so we'll see if these are any cooler.

Got the driver's side mostly done. Can't figure out how to get the side strap fed through the outer panel of the driver's seat. May just leave it off. Only cut my hand once fishing the bottom straps through so I got that going for me.... which is nice.

I'll take pics of the finished product after I drive around with them for a bit. It'll give them time to mold to seats. They look a little funky at first.

 

Got my Cali Raised interior Molle panels installed but haven't had a chance to get pics and start figuring out where stuff is going to go yet. Love the quality of the panels and they went in super easy!
