Yes a tree could've fallen on it.

The previous owner could've also installed an eBay snorkel at one point - some of those attach to the A-pillar with only one rivet instead of three.

^Fenders are easily replaced. You can even buy one pre-painted ready to bolt on from sites like Partify. I replaced the fender on my Tacoma in Sept last year, after falling into a rock ditch at an ORV park.

 

I have a 2018 TRDOR and I don't have that lil nipple.

 

Bro, if you're like me, once you see it...you cannot UNSEE it. Even if the door is closed, you'll be driving down the road thinking "There's a mother-fucking BUMP over there!". It will drive you absolutely crazy and you will feel shame when you're parked next to a nicer 4Runner. Because you are not worthy!

 

If it's removable, maybe you can replace it with something that fits flush...On the bright side, your 4R is unique.

 

Decide not to stress over it and enjoy your truck. It is what it is. I would invest zero effort into ‘fixing’ it.

 

Maybe, maybe not. Could be some branch fell on the pillar, hail, etc.

Crawl under, pop the hood, etc. and look for zip ties, non-oem clips and fasteners. Do you have any more plugs in the door jams, doors, etc?
