Gear Shift Knob

Anyone replaced their gear shift knob/ handle with an alternate that they really like? Would love to see pics if possible!

Only negative is they're pretty cold in the winter. But who really hangs onto an automatic shifter all day anyway. (Inb4 someone says they in fact do drive like that)

 

I've seen good things about Teton. Agree with temp change on these aluminum replacements.

I ended up going AJT, even though I've seen the reputation for being assholes. I liked that I could get the red anodized screws, and got them for hvac and radio knobs as well.

Only complaint is that it's hard to see the 4wd shifter selections, but had that issue with stock. I tried filling with the white touchup paint I have for super white but I'm too impatient to do it right so I took the paint back off. There are some who have it highlighted well but can't remember the company - I don't need to see the engraving to know how to shift between 2wd, 4h, and 4l.

 

Mine hasn’t worn out yet.

^^^Those. I did get a set of Teton Workshop also, but returned them as I prefer the Ellis Precision handles.

 

Hot in the summer also. True of all billet aluminum, regardless of manufacturer.

 

Good point. Order with the internal cooler.

If you get the OEM FJ shift knob and a set screw to mount it, it will match the T-Case knob you already have. Looks great too.

That's pretty slick. Does it use a set screw?

 

I ended up purchasing the shift knobs from Tinkerer Design. A little pricey, but great quality! Only complaint is they get cold in winter and hot in summer!

Another Ellis Precision here. I've had them on several 4Rs and one Taco over the years. I don't generally like aftermarket stuff that doesn't "do" something, but these are nice. Joel (business owner) is a good dude, too.



I have previously had the FJ shifter mentioned above and while I loved the appearance of it, it felt so unsubstantial in my hand - a good aluminum knob is nicely weighted and gives your shifting a positive feel.

 

I have these Red ones...ALWAYS get positive comments when newbies enter my ride. I have RED trim throughout my 2023 ORP from the knobs to the cup/tray inlays.

 

No set screw. Threads on like the OEM knob, because it is a Lexus OEM knob from the 2010s era.

 

Gotcha. I tried an oem 4Runner black TRD knob that also just threads on, but was not able to get it tight and in the correct orientation, and ended up returning it to the dealer. That's what I was curious about with the Lexus knob.

 

Use the same ones in my 4runner. Love how they feel and look. Don't mind if it gets cold in the winter.

 

Yet another one here with Ellis Precision. For me, the shift knobs have a great feel and just the right "heft" in the hand. Also, they have that "would-be" type Factory look. I added a red accent to the trans knob.

 

Other have already posted pics, but I really love my Teton Workshop ones. They're quality/very well made.

 

Teton Workshop - all black has been pretty sick
Like all metal shift knobs, hot in summer and cold in winter. For summer, many suggest simply covering with small cloth or clothing item. In the winter, suck it up!

 

Love my Teton shifter. Feels like I’m driving a tank.

 

Another vote for Teton. This is the version I have as well in all black.

I also have an Ellis sitting in a drawer in the garage.

 

This is "faux" Toyota shift. It's red with black/grey carbon fiber. Looks like OEM, but not.

I find the oem TRD shifter to be a bit too girthy.
Wouldn’t mind a more compact one that can fit largely in my palm…
