Hello all you other 2nd Gen owners! I just purchased a 1990 4-door SR5 with 92k original miles on her... less than a week and I'm already in love. She runs great and doesn't really have any major issues, but I did have a few quick questions that I was hoping someone here could help with. I searched and didn't see these answered already, so I apologize if I missed a thread somewhere.

First, the only real "issue" I have is that both rear seat latches are broken so the seats won't fold down. Does anyone have a part number or a line on replacement latches so I can try to fix this, or is there some other sort of workaround? Is it an easy fix or am I better off trying to replace the seats? I might try calling around to my local pick-a-part yards and see what sort of parts I can track down, but I'd rather get NOS if possible.

Second, I've seen the rear window molle-like panels for 3rd gen and up, but haven't come across anything like that for the 2nd gen. Does anyone have any recommendations, not just for those specific molle window panels but other tool (shovel, axe, etc) storage solutions? I'm thinking maybe a few Quick Fists screwed right in to the side paneling in the back below the windows, but I'm definitely open to suggestions.

    Thanks!

    welcome!

I'm not familiar with the back seat issue as I've never experienced that but I have a feeling you'll probably end up having to replace them. Try taking the back panel off of them and see if you can get a look at the mechanism. Might be as simple as a plastic clip that just needs to be replaced.

As far as I'm aware no one offers Molle panels for our gen of 4runner. My advice would be hit up all the companies that you see that make panels for the 3rd gens and ask them if they're ever going to make one. I see this question a lot and the reason they don't make any is because they believe that there is no market for it which couldn't be further from the truth. We just need to get in there and show them that we do want these products made for our vehicles as well

Welcome and congrats. As far as the seats go. You have to pull up the actually seat before the rear portion can fold down. There is supposed to be a knob on the top corner of each seat. Pull that up and the latch releases. Look in the hole and maybe see if you can get a needle nose in there to pull up the mechanism to release it. Good luck.
