I purchased a 1994 Toyota 4-Runner recently. I sent it through a very reputable Toyota place for a thorough work over. They did some work on it and it looks and sounds great. Only problem is that is chokes if you drive it too long. The shop can't seem to replicate the problem (because they can't be expected to drive it around for a couple of hours). The shop can't find any leaks, vacuum problems, or compression problems. The engine seems sound.

If I'm running errands and it that takes many hours, I will eventually get in and try to start it up and it will choke. Just run rough and then die. I can give it gas and still have it die. If I can keep it running, it will eventually run a bit smoother, but die if I try to drive off. This last time, it wasn't a bunch of short errands. It was driven about 40 miles and parked. When it came time to start it again, it ran rough and died a few times before stabilizing enough to get home. It felt like it lost power though. It was a greater struggle to get up the hills. It runs fantastic at all other times though. I'm thoroughly confused. Any advice on where I should be looking to find the problem?

fuel pressure test to start, when it runs ruff.
    fuel filter/pump ---( issues are 97% electrical 2% fuel)
    any engine codes?
test sensors o2, temp, mass air flow, TPS,
bad/lose wire? is it do for a tune up?
is there oil in the engine?
    check the timing?
    air filter clean?

oh do a vacuum test too.
it will tell you if a cylinder is not firing.
