Trail Grid Pro Kicker 8 speaker bundle

Anyone purchase these and can share thoughts on them?

 

Hey, I had this installed in my truck about....6 weeks ago? Maybe a little longer. I had a local shop install them for me. I was worried I'd fuck something up. The sound quality is noticeably better and louder than the stock speakers (better highs and deeper lows), but they aren't performing at their full potential.

Before the shop installed them, I heard a set (not the exact ones) hooked up to an amp and crossover. They sounded A LOT louder and had some serious bass. After thinking about it for a few weeks, I'm having the local Best Buy install the amp/crossover that I bought. It's scheduled for 12/31 (New Years). I can report back again then.

I'm pretty sure that the amp will give me exactly what I want and maybe more, but the speakers as-is, with no amp/crossover, are much better than factory.

I did not purchase a set for the rear hatch and will be elliminating that, also bought a new head unit from crutchfield awaiting that so that can run the amp and hopefully bring the system up to life
total cost so far: ~1100

 

I got them and installed them myself. It sounds good with stock HU but it definitely sounds better driven with an aftermarket amp and a sub to go with it. I have a alpine underseat 8" but planning to upgrade to a 10" kicker. Don't need to win a stereo contest so 10" sub is all I need.

 

Okay, follow up: I didn't need the LC7i component; but I did need a Kicker Interface (apparently Toyota OEM's and other OEM radio's sometimes have this problem). The part I needed was only $50 but Bestbuy didn't charge me since it was swapped for a part that I bought but didn't need.

Once everything was hooked the Trail Grid Pro speaker system sounded 5x's louder. It was much louder (at a lower volume) and the bass from the Kicker speakers could be felt. I could feel it in the seats and the back window would shake a little bit.

I played a Metallica song at volume level 30 before the amp was installed; and it sounded okay-ish. After the Kicker amp was installed; it was so loud and the bass was so deep that I had to turn it down to volume level 20 and it sounded louder than 30.

Money well spent. My system rocks now!

 

So I am slowly getting mine installed and collecting the needed hardware. I already have a simple LOC off front channel going to a Kicker 1200.1 to 2Kicker 12" I just purchased a Kicker 360.4 to push Trail Grid Pro Kicker upgrade. I called Crutchfield and they sold me P.A.C LOC Pro and "T-Harness" see image below. So will this do the same as what you described with this kicker Interface? Congrats on your results I am looking for similar results thanks for your help. Also can you describer your amp and where you installed amp and interface.

 

I have the same amp as you (well, the one you listed in the picture). I have it set to 90watts x 4 @ 2ohms.

Bestbuy did the install and this was the kit that was included:



Turns out, I did not need the PAC LocPro 4-Channel component. Instead I needed the Kicker Component that I listed above. Bestbuy didn't charge me for the Kicker component because I didn't need the PAC LocPro. It was an even swap. The installer at BestBuy said the OEM headunit for our 4Runners has some kind of block on it, which is why I needed the Kicker component to make the amp work. The PAC LocPro couldn't handle the wattage or something. He wasn't trying to up sell me, because I got the new device for free.

All in for the Amp, wiring, Kicker Component and installation: $700-ish

Tack that price onto the price of my Trail Grid Pro's (plus that installation for those), $1,700 total.

Sure, that seems like a lot (and it is), but a lot of that was labor charges to have it installed. The results were worth it. My 4Runner shakes with bass when I turn up the volume now.

 

Where did they install the amp and interface That seems really reasonable for the install I might just go that route. Will cut down on me trying to dial everything in. Only issue us I did not buy my amps from them will that be an issue?

 

When I bought the amp Bestbuy & Amazon were the same price ($183), now they're both selling it at $200+. I bought the amp from Bestbuy. They said I did not have to buy any components from them. They would install anything I wanted as long as I paid their install price.

They spent 4hours tearing everything apart and getting it wired up. So yeah, $419 for 4 hours of work? Worth it. I'm smart enough to know when I should pay someone to do things for me. They're the experts, I'm not.

 

Here's another bonus that I got when I added the amp: When I talk to someone on my cell using Bluetooth and using the 4Runners speakers and mic; the sound improved! I used to turn up the volume past 40 just to hear someone.

Before, I would call someone and they would complain that they could barely hear me or complain about wind noise? I used the same friend to test out the Bluetooth and he said I sounded crystal clear. I had turn down the volume to 20 because he sounded very loud when talking to me.

I got two words for you: Best. Buy.

I'm not saying you should pay them for this install, but they may give you free advice/guidance. I was going to do what you're doing, but I wanted to hear the stereo without a dedicated subwoofer and 2nd amp.

I'm glad I didn't add it, because I don't need it. Well, I think I don't need it. Your opinion may differ. The Trail Grid Pro/Kicker speakers have plenty of bass without needed a dedicated sub.

To test out how loud my setup is, I put on a Metallica song (Master of the Puppets), around 5 minutes in, the song hits really high high's and deep low's. Lots of bass and treble. The truck was in the garage. I cranked up the volume to 25, stepped out of the truck and walked back into the house (with the doors closed to the 4Runner), then I closed the door to the garage. I could hear it in the kitchen.

My suggestion: Hear the system first before adding the subwoofer.
