I am confused on replacing my ignition key. I have a cool start after market remote starter that also locks and unlocks the doors. Can I just get a new blank key with the right chip and have it cut? Do I need to program it? The new keys needs to do nothing other than start the truck, not a single thing at all. I'm frustrated looking through forums as nobody who's lost their key seems to be in my particular position as far as the after market remote starter. Appreciate any and all help. Thank you everyone.

Even if the key itself does NOTHING? The buttons on the key I lost didn't even do anything at all because of the remote start. How does one get this issue resolved without going to the dealership. They want WAY too much for a new key. Can't exactly afford $300 right now.

It's not the buttons on the key that you need, it's the programed "chip" in the key that let's the vehicle's immobilizer know it's the proper key being used for the vehicle, if it wasn't for this security feature these vehicles along with any other modern vehicle would be stolen within minutes of them being parked in most places!

A good locksmith should also be able to replace and program a new key...BUT it's still not going to be cheap!

I think I read somewhere on forums that you can program a blank key yourself with some sort of Toyota software, but I don't remember the name and I think it's not cheap either...

Buy a replacement key for cheap, something like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/391815012374

then get it cut and programmed at a locksmith. :notsure:
