been reading how 5th gen 4 runners owners are usually very loyal to their brand so I’m curious if you were offered and even trade your 4 runner for the next generation Land Cruiser would you take it ?

Not a chance. The "next generation" is exactly why I got my 2022 ORP this summer. The reliability of a older tried and true vehicle is exactly why I bought it.

Have we gotten to levels of cult-behavior to where a 2024 is now a dog shit 4runner? lol

I second comments above made by @Ripper238 and @Rob41 .

I bought for reliability, and I bought the last year without the "nannies."

No. I’m keeping my 18. It’s paid for and has zero issues. I love that it has none of the nanny electronics

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
My 34yr old 4R just keeps on going.
The 22 has a tough act to follow.

I believe the OP said even trade, so the new LC would also be paid for.

It's too early to know how the Landcruiser will hold up long term. If reliability were to be the same, I'd probably do it. I love this 4Runner, but more power and better fuel economy are pretty appealing. Plus I think the LC looks really good!

The lack of a roll down back window does suck, though.

I plan on checking one of them out at the auto show in February, if there's one there. Maybe I'll update my response after that.

Your post mentioned that it was paid for. I was pointing out that that would be irrelevant since the OP said "even trade."

Agreed about the nannies, though. I'm not a fan.

I would think the 2.8 turbo diesel would be the better option.

    Exactly!

I saw a brand new Sequioa yesterday, and it is every bit as fugly as the new Tundra.

I wish everyone thought that, so I could get a deal on one. Unfortunately, dealers will probably be gouging for the first year or 2.

Even trade? So fast your head would spin, lol

I'd also even trade for a Rubicon JLU or JT.

To be fair though, mine is 10 years old with 165k miles on it, I would even swap for pretty much any new vehicle as it's going to be worth more money and worth more to sell or trade.

This is my first Toyota. I don't have any specific loyalty to 4Runner or Toyota. It ticked all the boxes for me at the time, though I doubt I'll ever have another 4R.The only Toyota that excites me is the 80 series LandCruiser, and the new 70 series that we cannot get here in the US.

Edit: I do think the new Land Cruiser platform is pretty cool, and if I had unlimited funds I probably would get one. However, these new vehicles are just too expensive.

The new LC’s hybrid system and full-time 4WD sure look nice but I’d have to test drive one and double-check dimensions first.

I think my biggest issue so far with that new model is the lack of fold-flat seating. It’s neat that the second row tumbles at least like dad’s old RAV4 but the battery pack is too low to be in line with the seats when folded flat (not that I’d necessarily prefer that) and too high for a flat cargo area when tumbled up.

Not sure I’m about that but for an even trade and assuming the mechanics are as solid as it can reasonably be, it’d be tempting.

Edit: But if there was another body-on-frame, compact or mid-size, low range/4WD SUV that pops up that doesn’t look like a Wrangler/Bronco then I’d certainly give it a look. (like the Pathfinder, Borrego of old)

I probably wouldn’t trade my 4Runner, but I might be tempted to buy a Land Cruiser in a few years when they have the bugs worked out and it’s proven itself with reliability…

Ha ha. I just said this to my wife today. We had a snowstorm this morning and I was just telling her if I ever lost this vehicle I would go out and get another one but it wouldn’t be newer than a 2019.

I would if it was offered to me in exchange for my 4R.
It is modern, has all creatures comforts, still a Toyota. Has to be better than my 13 year old.
I can always buy another 13 year old 5th again.
But then I am also not emotionally invested in this car.

I don’t even have one and will not be getting the 6th gen. I’m patiently waiting to find the slightly used 5th gen with the specs I am looking for. 2020+’s have all the tech I could need and I like the simple but advanced approach with it

My first vehicle, wish I still had it. 73 K10 on 35s, circa 1995. I used to listen to that song in this truck lol.

The 'old' Chevy (if it were in great shape) I would trade for. I've had several 'old' pickups over the years and kind of miss 'em! Now the '70's-'80's pickups in nice shape are about 3-4 times more expensive then when they were new! But, since it's an even trade... YES.
