Hey guys/gals! Been lurking here for many months, but decided to finally join the group. My 24 T4R Pro is arriving later this month, and I can't wait to jump in. I've been all over the auto spectrum over the years (Jeep, Audi, MB, Chevy, Ford) and I'm finally ready to settle down with something reliable that can handle some adventures in the NE. I'm coming out of a low mile Gen2 Raptor, and before that a 700hp Audi S6 & Wrangler JLUR lift/tires/armor. I know I will be begging for more power, but after so many years of headaches, I'm ready for reliability. I know I am the opposite of most people who go 4R --> Raptor, but the tradeoffs don't bother me in the least. No pics of the T4R yet, as it's still in transport, but I will post them ASAP. Cheers!

Welcome and hope you will be happy with the slower 4Runner.

I think there is a post someone checking for Raptor experience, would be awesome to hear what bad experience you had with the Raptor.

Welcome from RI! Where in the NE are you?

You're gonna miss the power, but otherwise the 4R is solid.

Right now I have some temporary insanity, lol... been looking into Gladiators due to the crazy discounts.

North Shore MA/Western Maine Mountains. I would run far away from Jeep - the reliability just isn't there. My 2019 JLUR had tons of issues with the ESS system (even after defeating it), rust on all panels (Jeep didn't prime the hinges on JLs until recently), barely made it 220mi on a tank of gas at 72mph, and was really fun when it wouldn't start because "push clutch to start" on an automatic. The Gladiators look cool, and can run big tires with very little issue, but I would never buy one again. If I get another Wrangler, it will be a TJ.

My 72 Plymouth is still around for when I need more power, or the wife's ZL1.

I'm a lurker just like you. I have a 2020 F150 and have been thinking about trading it for a 4Runner since the summer. I have looked at several, but never pulled the trigger. I still have my eye on a few. Like you, I want to be in that Toyota reliability. I was a Toyota guy for a long time, but couldn't work a deal on a Tundra a few years back and bought a Ford. Can't wait to see pics of your TRD Pro when you get it!

I always liked the Tundra, but it just didn't make sense for me since we have a fleet of Fords. The 4Runner is a welcome change, and I still have plenty of trucks if I need one.

That's really disappointing to hear. I always want to give Jeep the benefit of doubt, I've always been a fan.

The 4R was actually my 2nd choice, was looking at used JKUs in 2018, but then the JLU came out and killed my interest in the JK. A new vehicle was not in budget, so I bought a 6 y/o 4Runner in early 19.

I've been itching for a brand new vehicle (I've never had one), and Wayalife and TrailRecon talking about the deals the got on their JTs got me looking. I recently saw a listing for one nearly 20K off MSRP. Rubi with cold weather & LED group. I DO love a bargain! I suppose not worth it if it's always in the shop.

Sorry to threadjack, your mention of being a Jeep owner was timely.

Hey - if you can get it brand new with a warranty, and don't plan on keeping it for a super long time, go for it. Mine was in and out of warranty during my ownership, and once it was out of warranty, it was time to go. Definitely go Rubi if you can, as the factory 4.10 gears really make a difference with 35s, and they are tolerable with 37s. The overbuilt factory Dana 44s are a nice match. The LED lights are great (except in snow/ice), the heated seats/wheel work well, the stereo is pretty good.

My buddy in Southern NH does oil undercoating, so I will likely bring it up there on my way home.

Thanks for the info. I think I'm coming to my senses and should probably just stick to the 4Runner. I should keep saving for house, I would feel too much like a loser street parking a brand new 60-something K vehicle in front of my rented apartment lol.

I tend to keep my vehicles a long time, my 4Runner is a 2013 with almost 166k on it, and I still think of it as a fairly new vehicle. Of course that could also be because I could go to the showroom and buy a brand new version of the same thing lol. I'm sure they'll start seeming older to me if the sixth gen ever comes out.

If I bought something like a Jeep or 4Runner new, I would want to be super picky about maintenance and keep the thing forever, unless I got bored with it. I guess that doesn't really mesh well with not wanting to own one outside of warranty.

Just remember you won’t have the power of a Raptor, the right lane is your friend.

I don't drive over 75 anyways. My Rubi on 37s was a right lane cruiser. The Raptor will cruise at any speed you want, but it starts drinking fuel over 75. The S6 was the dangerous one.

Just tryin to keep expectations low. Biggest complaint I read is the lack of power from the 4R.

    Welcome,
72 Plymouth which one? I had a 71 Road Runner Orange Black stripes back in the day. I'm on the cusp of purchasing a FF daytona kit with my wife's blessing as my new hitting 50 year old toy. I had to postpone because she wanted a new 4 seasons room and travel trailer before my new Factory Five. I still own a few motorcycles when I really want to blow off steam. Ducati Panigales and BMW Adventurer. I've only owned my 4Runner 4 months but IMO dump the pro save your money put it where it counts. Most the gents I know who owned pro's liked it out of the starting gate however eventually upgraded components over time. The main difference between ORP and Pro is the suspension tires and rock rails + roof rack. The ORP comes with all the the drive train and 4 wheel drive goodies of the Pro. You may find you want a taller suspension and tires. If your hung up on badging and looking good at Starbucks go for the Pro. Just my 2 cents.

    Good luck with it !

72 Plymouth Duster 340. Numbers matching. Bought it out of California almost 20yrs ago. Bored .30 over, headers, manifold, cam, carb, heads, superstock driveshaft and rear end. My old man had a Demon in HS and we wanted to get close to that. Next toy will be a 68 SS Hemi Dart clone with a Ray Barton 528 Hemi in it.

Welcome! What issues did you have with you raptor? What year?

Ray Barton built my dad's 383 in his 69 roadrunner. Ray Bartons shop is local to us. And man did that car move. If I remember correctly it dynod 475hp/550ft/lbs and ran a 10.67 @130mph.

My 71 roadrunner had the 383 also 6 pack. I remember in highschool driving a little too aggressively over some railroad tracks and ripped the exhaust right off the header on my way home from school. Nothing like the sound of a beefy 8 cylinder and open headers. Had to crawl under with my jean jacket as a glove trying to bang it back into place with a crow bar. Good times.
