Do 2004 sr5 middle row seats (has 3rd row) only go up, not down flat?

I’ve looked online and can’t find answers! Does anyone know if you can put the middle row seats of a 3 row 2004 4Runner sr5 down flat? I have only been able to get them to fold up again the front seats and it’s frustrating because my husband and I are big on sleeping in our car camping, and this shortens the length of the back so much that we can’t! I was desperate when I bought the car and didn’t check the backseats :/ Please help if you know something I don’t. Thanks in advance!

What I’m thinking is if they can stay folded flat, without being folded up as you mentioned, you can build a sleeping platform to bring the rear space level with the second row seat backs.

There’s a chance (I don’t know myself) the second row can come out like my parent’s old RAV4 after they’ve been tumbled forward but I have not heard of it being a thing and it’s bigger too - so it might mean some disassembly or just not attempting it.
