    We haven't been there in the last 4 yrs. because we moved out of SoCal. after we retired but, when I was growing up in the IE, my Dad and I would pass through LV and eat at a number of restaurants in town. Or get groceries at the store just south of that intersection, on our way to either the dry lakes or the hills in Johnson Valley, long before the "Hammers" became a thing.
    Since I was born in 29 Palms, he knew the back roads to get to the areas to explore for "collectables".

    Those were the very early days of learning how to fix your junk if you broke down and he and I would always make it back home for Moms home cooked meals. But also there was those unscheduled overnight trips that would worry my Mom. My Dad, a former Marine, knew what to do to get his #1 son safely home.

    Thx, I took the Smith-Dorrien trail (aka highway 742 or spray lakes road) from Canmore down to Peter Lougheed Provincial Park. I was hoping it would be more difficult, but a car could easily navigate the road
