Hey everyone - I recently installed the Morimoto XB Gen 2 headlights and tail lights in my 2019 ORP. They look great.

The headlights were an open box purchase directly from Morimoto. I had an issue with them and reached out to Morimoto support for help. They exceeded my expectations and really went the extra mile to address the issue. I just wanted to mention that here since excellent customer service isn't always the case. I would definitely do business again with Morimoto in the future.

You’re having better luck then I. I returned my smoked rear tail lights cause of fitment. Spoke to them today and the guy who does the return has not looked at them yet. To send me another set out. Giving them one more chance.

Out of curiosity, what was the fitment issue that you had? I installed mine last weekend without any big issues. I meant to pay attention to the gaping of the oem lights to compare to these but forgot. Was there a blatant issue or was it something else?

I have removed these before on my other 4runner Pro’s and no issues. Only got to the drivers side and no matter what it would not snap in. First thing almost like to much rubber insulation that it would not let it snap in. And you said about the gaping of the top of the lense the aftermarket much higher too tight than the oem. I think those 2 issues are causing the problem. Not happy with them so far. Even after calling them. I will give them one more chance sending me out a new set. Same issue I will just get a refund. Just to mention the lense size is different than the oem.

Joseph, Do you have any close up pics of the rear tail light so I can see the gap. Thanks.

That’s the best picture I have right now. It’s currently at the shop for the week but will take some more once I get it back.

Glad your experience with Morimoto went well, I guess except for the having to email them in the first place. Not many take to the interwebs to praise customer services.

Thank you. Looking at it the top part of the lens your gap looks to be about the same from oem. My driver side was so tight you were rubbing the top part of the paint when trying to put the lens in. Maybe I got a bad set. I will know when I try another set.

So one thing I did notice, this was the first time I have removed the rear lights ever. The plastic tabs at the bottom that the light slides into, mine seemed to have pulled up some when I removed the oem lights. I had to sort of seat those back down in place and then slid the new ones in. That lower clip had a good amount of play on it and the first time it almost wanted to slide the light in above the clip. Removing these dang things is violent and sounds like you are absolutely breaking something when you do it. It was nerve racking for me.

I just took these pictures of my Morimoto's, to give you an idea of what the fit should be:

Thank you. Also guys thanks for posting pics. I agree what Joseph said about the bottom clips where the light slides in. This is the way I look at it. When you are spending $600 dollars for aftermarket lights there should be no issue. I took my oem and put it right back in no problem. And I know for sure that the light was lined up to go where the tabs are if you call them that. It should have popped right in. Yeah they sound like they are breaking when you pull them out. We will see what happen with the next set. Lol.

Good luck and hopefully they work out! They look extremely good to me and a huge improvement over the OEM. I did keep mine just in case. Never know with these types of things.

This sounds like a canned review. What issue did you have with your set and how did Morimoto fix it?

Yeah they definitely look good. I also got the smoked reverse light to change out and the moritmotos mirror lights. But I’m keeping my oem set just incase I need to switch them back.

Update on the rear tail lights. Morimoto tried sending me out another set and they got lost. So they refunded me my money. Giving another place a try. Was in touch with them and explained everything and see what happens next set. If they don’t fit getting a refund again. I thought about going with the ones on 4runnerlifestyle but don’t care for the light design. So last try.

That’s a fair question. I had purchased an open box set with a 30 day warranty.

I installed them and they created a parasitic battery drain. I called Morimoto and walked them through the issue and they sent a brand new set since they didn’t have another open box set available.

The new set worked perfectly. I just wanted to call out the excellent customer service.

I know it's an old thread but did you end up getting a new set? If so did it fix the issue, I'm running into the same thing as you right now.

Yes I did get a new set. But not from Morimoto’s. Canceled that order and ordered from another vendor. Lighting gurus. Had no issues with getting a set from them. Also I did you my router just to trim the top piece where it was tight. All good now. Also the new set was much better fit just for a small area.

Ahh, so you trimmed a little bit of the top of the lens? How does that hold up?

It’s fine no issues. I used a soft dremel that just shaved a little bit off and used a small touch up of black paint and you cannot even tell. It just seemed like this set was much better fit but I feel even the other sets that were worse from Morimoto’s I think you could have done the same. But I did not want to shave that much incase the lens would possibly crack. But the fit on but if mine look good and not touching the body around the opening. Hope this helps.

Ya, I contacted 4R lifestyle, let's see what they say. Bummer for such an expensive set of tail lights that were suppose to be plug and play.
