What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

Installed the OEM Audio + speakers that my wife gave me for Xmas. Well, not all the speakers, I still have to install the rear hatch speakers but did both sets of doors and both tweeters. Install was very easy and sound is much improved. Not on par with high end car audio systems but definitely worth the $650 to upgrade from stock.

 

Updated - I just installed the rear hatch speakers as I decided I’d feel better if I completed the job today and not tomorrow. These new speakers in the rear made a huge difference. They add to the entirety of the sound in the cabin, at all levels. Previously, they were muffled and bassy, now they compliment the others fully and clearly. I am very satisfied with the outcome. Factory speakers went straight in the trash can.

 

Update: I took apart both lights and flipped the plastic components 180* and both popped in. The dome light feels like it's a little overstuffed, but they both work.

 

I just looked up where they are, only an hour away. That's good to know.

Yeah, I spent a very long time searching old threads so that I could make an informed decision. Unfortunately, after all of the searches, there was no definitive info that said it was worth the cost or not. Some liked the upgrade but an equal number said to go a different route. Now that I’ve done it, I have no regrets. For less than $1k ($650) it was a major upgrade and is plenty good enough for my 4R. If I wanted studio like sound, I would have bought a different vehicle. What I have now is a beast with great sound. I’m happy.

 

Got Grandma to babysit - Used the 4R to get me to, and more importantly home, from GUTS Gators Ultimate Training Series.
Now I can't walk LOL

Used 4WD for the last time this year.

Also got the worst tank-average gas mileage since I bought the vehicle - 14 mpg.

 

I hope you'll have opportunity to use it next year.

Bought a set of Phillips H9 light bulbs back in 2018.

First one just went out on me.

Pretty good run, IMO.

 

This reminds me to find an excuse soon to go fart around and exercise the 4WD, and an excuse to get away from the old lady

My wife will complain about taking care of the toddlers during a busy dad work week, then I cautiously ask for permission to take a job out of town and she instantly says yes, of course, get out of here

 

Finally washed it. The dark color and a dusty daily drive means my 4r has looked pretty neglected since installing the Gobi and giving up on tunnel washes. Hard water here means my usual method (foam cannon, 2 bucket wash, leaf blower, hand dry) takes forever.

Tried a rinseless wash today (P&S Absolute) with a sponge, and after a brief learning curve it's a nice compromise between speed and results. Had to wash and dry by sections, and I need an easier solution to drying under the rack, but got it looking presentable in record time.

 

Took the short-cut home with the 4Runner

 

Installed all the black trim no overlays getting rid of all the silver

I told myself Jan. 1/2024 that Jan. 1/2025 my body will have forgone a muscular transformation. Jan. 1/2025 will likely just result in me deleting the comparison photo I took yesterday

 

Used it to take Xmas to local Fire Co. for re-cycle. I may have rolled over 1k since took delivery W/3 mi on it.
