Hey all. Just got '24 TRD Pro in Terra. First Pro. I am not enjoying the muffler noise at all. It is already a loud vehicle with AT tires and what seems to be pretty poor soundproofing compared to modern day standards, but I accept that completely with the 4 Runner. I like to hear the sound of the engine and the road, just not the muffler and exhaust. I know some have swapped out the exhaust to stock non-Pro 4 Runner based upon prior threads. Any other options? Is it cat-back change or bust? And is it possible to modify it to make it quieter without losing the side discharge? Thanks.

I haven't crawled underneath to get a first hand look at the exact routing and space, but I would think any decent muffler shop should be able to swap in a different muffler and/or add a resonator to tone down the TRD exhaust, while utilizing most of the pipe and keeping the same tailpipe location and tip. I'm on the fence about pursuing that as sometimes I do like the exhaust now that I've lived with it for a month, and other times I think it needs to have something done to reduce drone under certain loads and RPM.

I'm also weighing just getting a cat back in full stainless to avoid any rust issues in the future.

I would just swap the muffler piece for an OEM piece. You can keep the tale pipe intact as the muffler just bolts into the flanges nicely. Many of us here have gone this route. You can then sell the Pro muffler piece and be done.

I like the sound of the exhaust at start up, but at times it is tough, especially highway or up hills in my neighborhood. My poor neighbors. You think a resonator would help enough? I am not too familiar with them or how much benefit they could/would add, but may be a good step to try and probably cheaper.

Resonator won't do much of anything. It is about the size of the muffler and how large or wide the space/duct is in there so that it can trap the noise. Look at the size of the OEM vs the PRO and that is the answer. I would just swap for OEM and be done. I went thru this stuff and spent too much money and time finding options and just ended with the OEM, quiet and peaceful.

I had read there was a potentially different bolt pattern between Pro and non Pro 4runners (2 vs 3, but cant remember what had what), and it required welding if not replacing both the muffler and the tailpipe. the pictures is a saw posted from people who did it didn't make me feel good about doing it. does that sound accurate to you?

The exhaust drone is one of the reasons I chose a ORP over the Pro. You may be able to find an owner of a new ORP who would swap with you.

The muffler and exhaust are different on the TRD. I hated the noise and installed the muffler and exhaust on the standard 4Runners. It is an easy swap but cost over $1000 at my dealer. I chose to warehouse the removed parts so the next owner will be able to choose how much noise he wants to endure. My 4Runner now sounds exactly like by old 2015 TRD Pro after the swap - nice and quiet. Also note the side exhaust pipe has 3 bolts and will not just bolt on to the standard (non TRD) muffler without some major alterations.

The excessive noise of the 2024 4Runner sure came as a surprise since my 2015 was quiet and I had no idea Toyota had made this ridiculous change. I purchased the 2024 in Frankfort, KY. After my wife and I drove it back to FL with the obnoxiously loud muffler noise my wife proclaimed, "either fix it or sell it". Be forewarned.

they dont just bolt up. The tailpipe on a trd pro exhaust is a 3 hole flange vs 2 hole for stock oem like on a SR5
