I'm looking to buy a 4Runner that is CPO by a local dealer.
The literature on the Toyota Certified web site states that the 7 years start from day of purchase of the used vehicle. A local dealer is trying to say it started Jan 1 of the model year regardless of purchase date so for instance a 2020 would be actually start on Jan 1, 1019, and not tied to your used purcahse date. Has anyone run into this ?

Impossible to say without reading the entire contact. Times like this, it would be an advantage to have a Perry Mason in the family. ;)

Call another Toyota Dealer and ask... thats an interesting one.

I've owned a couple CPO Toyota's and thankfully never ever had to worry about this kind of thing because I never once needed warranty work. lol.

I'm watching Rear Window now on TCM. I wouldn't trust that version of Raymond Burr with a contract matter. (Or with hiding a dead body).

Anyway, it seems like the interval should start with the date of purchase. However, the fine print is what matters.

Welcome. We've had 2 Toyota CPOs (one is lexus). They start the day of purchase and run along side the original bumper to bumper warranty if you still have it.

If your salesman is trying to say it started before you purchased the vehicle, that's false and they need more training. It's literally the whole selling point of charging a bit more. Lol. There's no way for a stealership to know when that CPO vehicle will be purchased.

Thanks for all of these answers and I just got off the phone with Toyota. 7 year part of this starts with my used purchase date which is what several of you have confirmed as well. Mileage is vehicle mileage.

I always thought it was 100k mikes after the used purchase, and I thought that would be great, but I was wrong, 100k on vehicle life.
