I’m confused because the sensor doesn’t make the screen get any dimmer than not having the sensor.

I do not. Does it get dimmer if you have the sensor than the lowest setting without the sensor?

I'm not quite sure why the dash sensor helped with the OP's being 'blinded'. That sensor keeps the dash display bright if you turn on your lights during the day. Once the outside light is low enough, the dash display goes into the dimmer standard night mode when the lights are on. Without the sensor, turning on the headlights during the day dims the dash lights.

Yeah I don’t see how the sensor would make it dimmer than just turning down brightness with the little dimmer wheel. But if it does, there’s something to be gained there.

maybe OP gouged his eyes out with the sensor?

There are two settings, and two configurations for each.

    1. The dimmer for the instrument cluster lights
    2. Brightness settings for the display in the menu

Then, with the headlights on and off, the settings are the same, for the instrument cluster, since your dimmer position is already set. But with the headlights on, the settings are dimmer at the min and max levels.

Then in the display, with the headlights on, you have a dimmer display and also separate brightness adjustment that’s configurable differently than when the headlights are off.

so headlights on, one set of settings and headlights off, another set of dimmer settings.

Just bought a 2023 4Runner & figured out how to adjust the colors/brightness of the screen. Click “menu”, then “setup”. To the right of the screen, click “theme”. This is where you can select the background color & color of the letters. Problem fixed!

If I hit "menu" there is a little button at the bottom of the screen saying "display".

His "display" then "general" and it gives brightness and contrast settings for the screen.

On my 2020 the radio display changes from white background to black background when I turn on my headlights
