The 2024 4runners offer a 360 Camera system (Panoramic view monitor, I think they call it) on some packages.

Is it possible to retrofit this to an older 4runner? Say a 2021 ORP? Is the software available in the headunit and only requires the hardware? Or would even the headunit require an upgrade? Are the wiring harnesses in place, and available for the camera? or would the whole harness need to be changed/added?

Currently no one has tried but you would need the different lower mirror covers with cameras and wiring for everything. The camera system is garbage though due to the Atari 2600 resolution.

My ‘23 ORP has a version of this if you are talking about the overhead view. It helps with parking lots to ensure I’m in the lines.

Like it was mentioned, the resolution on the screen is horrible.

Lol that’s hilarious. I did reach out to TrailGridPro a while back to ask if they were working on an upgrade. He said it was on their list of possibles but nothing concrete on it yet. It seems like only a matter of time for somebody to figure out a way to improve it. It seems like the mirror cameras are what cause the resolution degradation so hopefully somebody smarter than me figures out a way to improve it. Lol

Yah, the 360 view is pretty bad, and the backup camera is worse than my 16 Highlander. The camera resolution is the only thing I am unhappy with so far on my 23 ORP.

This is my first go-round with anything like this. I'm impressed that I can see anything without looking at it.

Yes it’s just as bad as the 4R. They most likely share the same software that stitches all the angles together and the low resolution of the mirror cameras.

they definitely resolved the issue on the new gen tundra, sequoia and Tacoma. The new gen 4R will probably be better as well. Shame that they couldn’t make a small effort for the old (current) gen

I love the note: "Check surroundings for safety." They should add: "because you can't see shit on the screen."

I think even the 360 in my uncle’s new 22 RX350 has terrible video quality.

I don't have surround view on it but the rear camera quality on my 2023 Prius Prime is pretty much as bad as the 4Runner.
