Does anyone know if the factory or port installed door edge guards can be installed by a dealer?

My friend is looking for a SR5P and I like that feature on mine and told him so. But finding a unit in stock with that is fairly tough.

Just wondering how hard they are to install and if a dealer could put those on?

I just bought the Toyota OEM door edge guards in grey to match my 4R, but they are SO HARD to get on. I am afraid I am going to cause more damage installing them, than the protection they will provide

Thanks yeah the ones i have on my ORP seem super solid but were put on at port. My buddy wants a MGM SR5P if he can fine one decked out the way he wants it ideally. It's too bad they don't put these on all of them for the $80 or whatever the cost was it was minimal. I am sure the guys at the port do it best when they put tons on each day.

Yeah, I was really glad the vehicle on allocation that I snagged already had them. Messing them up during installation looks super easy.

Don't blame me, I voted for Trump.
I installed mine, line them up and use a rubber mallet. I started from top and gently tapped them on working towards the bottom. Three years and still good.

Mine came with them but I would have otherwise attempted to install myself. Can’t imagine any dealer being more careful with the install on your vehicle than yourself, plus the labor charge will be stupid.

I don’t even trust them with oil changes after hearing multiple complaints of lazy techs from nearby dealer service shops not changing oil filters on 4Runners because “they’re a pain to access and not necessary every change”.

I’d try yourself and only bring to a good indie bodyshop in the rare chance you royally screw it up. But above advice is how I would have tried to tackle it too.

Agree with Post #9 above. Mine came with the guards. But I installed a pair for a friend on his 22'. Just light taps with a rubber mallet. Don't be in a hurry. They will go on easily.
What I like about the Factory door edge guards is that they are narrow, and body colored to match the paint. Mostly inconspicuous.

It seems tapping metal over metal would scratch the paint finish, did you notice any of that with your friends install? Any protective rubber or foam on the inside edge guards? Thanks

My 2022 was delivered with them, I would not have ordered them given the chance. That said, I really like them now and after watching the video find the $79 price much more reasonable than I first believed. Sometimes you just don’t know until you have them. I recently added color matched body side molding, easy install and already absorbed one door ding, saving the paint.

They are coated (see below), and even if they did scratch a little when installing it's covered up by the guard itself. If your worried about it, then don't get them but then you will get door edge chips.

It defeats the purpose of protecting the edge when it damages the edge. Worse is when you don't see the scratch and if its down to metal, your door will rust.

Better off putting a strip of ppf on the edge.

That's what we did 40 years ago when we were detailing our cars for resale. We used the same hammer and the handle end of a wooden scrub brush to remove them.
