I recently bought a Warn 10K lb winch for $419 at Northridge 4x4 and Warn is offering a $150 rebate through 15Dec. $445 shipped minus the rebate = $300 in case anyone is in the market for a solid winch with an unbeatable warranty. (For the record, I have no affiliation with this seller and receive nothing from sharing this deal. I'm just a cheap bastard who likes spreading the news about quality gear at smokin' prices.)

If you prefer synthetic rope, check places like FB Marketplace. Found a NIB FieryRed syn rope & fairlead for $70, which I'll likely get back selling the Warn steel cable & fairlead. Win win!

I jumped on this too, it arrived Monday.

It can be even cheaper, I'm planning on selling the roller fairlead and wire rope. New from Warn they're about 150-ish each.

My brother works at a place that makes various lines out of syn rope, he's going to make me a line and extension out of Amsteel synthetic rope.

After talking to a few local guys, I'm going to go with a 50 foot line. Less line on the drum (the more wraps on the drum, the less pulling power), and less to have to respool after.

50' may not be adequate if you are going to use a snatch block ever. Figure you have a good 3-5' on the roll when it is wound out as far as you can go, so you would be at 45'. Through a snatch block would give you 22.5' which isn't a lot. I think you're better to stay at the stock length, personally.

Same thoughts here. Best winch setup ever won’t help if you’re out of reach.

That was actually my first question when they mentioned the shorter line. The response was that you use the winch extensions to rig up the snatch block.

It may be more complicated than it's worth, I don't know. I do know that these guys go out quite a lot, and have been doing it for years and have gone to multiple recovery classes with certified instructors. They both have very built up 200 series Land cruisers. One of them also has an 80 series that he built up for the harder trails, I'm super jealous.

As far as anchors, we're in New England, on the trails here you're never more than a few feet from a solid tree.

I'll look into it more before doing anything.
