Long story short... My cousin ran into a broken plastic coolant elbow on his 2016ish F150 left him stranded on the beaches of OBX. It got me thinking I guess new cars arnt immune to brake downs.

Anyhow, I was at Lowes and noticed small tool kits. What would some basic tools and wrench/socket sizes the bet you at least to the closes autoparts store?

In my feeble old mind, if at this point you have to ask you are probably not going to fix it anyway. I have a towing service for this exact problem. I can save time, and money by not making it worse.

I have a tote that carries ratchet straps, duct tape, 1/2" Metric socket set, zip ties, multihead screw driver, and jump starter. Another tote has microfiber rags and unused gas can (I'm sure if i use it i would put it back in there after assuring it out lol).

What is messed up is no matter how effin prepared we want to be, We always find out after the fact which is the most crucial part to have.

Throw in at least two 2" hose clamps. Would also pack some additional fuses, tire plugging kit and compressor (options aplenty on comps)

Like what most have stated above, It can get overboard easy if we don't set limits.

I carry a tool bag with a lot of the items that Ctreg mentioned. I've only ever used it at home, or to do non-4Runner tasks.

What I HAVE used is a plug kit & compressor, and a li-ion compact jump box. I would definitely carry those 3 items at all times.

The rest, depends on how handy you are and how remote you plan on being.
