Grills (for grilling)

Picked up a Coleman Roadtrip 225, but it seems bulkier than necessary among other issues.

What's everyone's favorite compact propane grill for camping?

I'm using some generic one from Walmart. Honestly, for being dirt cheap, I really can't complain, heat control is OK, and it folds down pretty nicely. It doesn't heat super evenly, but what do you want for like $30?

I'd like something nicer, eventually, I'm curious to see what others are using.

 

I just use my backpacking stove most of the time. It's about the size of my thumb. If I were going to do serious cooking, I'd bring my 35 year-old Coleman stove.

I've used it in temps down to about -5F.

 

Nothing wrong with that design which is probably why it is generic; the size is adequate, it's light, and folding legs are smart. I'll bet the temp control is better than the Roadtrip too.

I've had one of those for a long time, packed into a little Stanley cup pot thing with a fuel tank, P51, and a folding spork. The whole thing is the size of a can of beans. Perfect for a ramen emergency, every year or two I remember it exists and test it out. Can't exactly throw steaks on it though.

Nice, looks like the 225's baby brother plus it has a latch. Wonder if it would fit in a Wolfpack? I have a Front Runner fire pit which does, but it's hardly convenient otherwise.

Speaking of fire pits, I briefly considered the
Ignik FireCan Deluxe monstrosity. Would be pretty cool if it was at least double the surface area.

 

We sold the boat in July, and used one of these on it for many years. Its completely stainless and cleans up so nice with the Magma brand grill cleaner. Most importantly, it grills everything evenly too. Costy, though....

I use

large Plano cases (which are incidentally cheaper than Wolfpacks) and the grill takes up very little room in there.
