Freeze plugs

I have a 1996 Toyota V6 SR5 4x4. Is there an easier way to get to the freeze plug behind the air conditioning unit without removing the unit. If not, how do you remove the air conditioning unit.

 

Does anybody know the sizes of the freeze plugs? I'm rebuilding my 2000 3RZ-FE.. There are 12 in all. (3) 40mm, (8) 35mm, and (1)???? What size is the last one?

 

Since I'm researching an unrelated issue but know the freeze plug size I'll answer this thread 9 years later.
The plug sizes on a 3rz-fe are: 40mm (x3), 35mm (x8), and 30mm (x1). I'm pretty sure this applies to the 2tr-fe because it used the block from the 3rz.
The 5vz uses 35mm plugs too (x11)
