Just bought my 1st trd premium 4runner. But have owned 4x4 trucks 30 yrs.. question: when I put 4runner into 4h to come up my steep hill it goes easily but then when I try to put it back in 2wd it doesn't go easily. I feel like something isn't quite right or I'm simply not doing it right but it just doesn't go back up.

You should be moving forward in a straight road when shifting in and out of 4wd high. Let off the throttle a bit to make the shift easier and man handle it.

Adding that turning on a road in 4wd will cause driveline bind (not a good thing) in case you didn't know.

Yes, I'm moving when I put it into 4h but yes I'm probably stopped cause I've reached my house. So I'll try putting it back into 2wd as I top the hill. My truck has a button for the 4x4 and don't remember having that situation with my old 4x4 truck which was in the floor.. but thanks for your help

If you stop you can try neutral to unload the drivetrain. It's very sensitive to load since the lever acts directly onto the transfer case.

Yes I found that out! I think that's actually what I done. But wasn't sure exactly how I finally got it back in 2wd..

Mine is the opposite. It takes more effort to shift into 4HI than it does back into 2HI.

I'm confused. There's an Off Road Premium and an SR5 Premium. No TRD Premium. Do you have a dial for 4wd (SR5) or a shift handle for 4wd (Off Road)?

The TRD Offroad is available non premium or premium in the US. For my 19, the premium package added softex seats, signal mirrors, GPS and a couple of other things. Both had a manual case.

Did you forget that the offroad starts with TRD offroad?

I'm well aware of the Off-road vs Off-road Premium offerings in the US. I was trying to pin down what the OP has. He mentions a "button" for 4wd engagement. No button on the Offroad, premium or not, as you mentioned. Knowing which he has might help with giving advice on engaging/disengaging 4wd.

I think he meant a previous vehicle.

It will figure out when it wants to shift back and forth on its own time. Don't listen to that level-ground nonsense
