Is that a tent on top? Would make sense to me if so.

I'm a little disappointed the twin-clutch rear on upper-trim RAV4's like that doesn't seem to show itself in off-camber situations or have a lock option like the BS Badlands/Maverick Tremor but I get Toyota's being conservative in it's application and probably prefers increased idiot-proofing. (The '22 RAV4 TRD "Off-Road" had a disappointing showing on Driving Sports TV even compared to other crossovers)

I say good for them. If they are short and putting things up on that rack and getting out and exploring that's awesome. If they do it enough they'll probably end up with a 4Runner eventually. I may have gone with a smaller vehicle if I didn't have a wife and 3 kids (and would have quickly decided I wanted to bump up to the 4Runner). But if they are doing campsites and dirt roads they'd be fine and that rack gives them all the space they need for storage as they have less in the vehicle.

I agree. A RAV4 isn't a 4R, but it can get a lot of places a typical sedan or crossover cannot. There are plenty of good adventures to be had in a RAV4.
