    Oooh look, another mod.....

I have those, and currently I have hyper flashing. The install was really easy though and the price was right. I snagged a pair during their black Friday sale. I had to order some resistors to stop the hyper flashing, which will be here tomorrow. I also ordered a set of NON switch backs, to see if I can use them without resistors.

I don't think I'll be successful, but I'll test and find out!

This is how bright they are. At night, they are SUPER bright.

I see, that’s a bummer. Lmk if you are successful with resistors. I’d order them with if it works for you.

The lights that I have work great, except for the hyper-flash. Everything that I read stated a resistor will fix my issue. I'm only worried about installing the resistor, because it's very hard to see the wires. When I was installing the LED's, I was doing it blind.

I ordered the non-switch back hoping I can do an easy plug-n-play option, without having to find, isolate and fix wires. Basically I'm trying to go with the shortest & easiest route.

I'll check in with everyone late tomorrow evening with my findings.

I just came across these. May be a solution?

    https://www.headlightrevolution.com...-carbide-bulbs-LED.BUL.7443.CAR2_2?quantity=1
    https://www.headlightrevolution.com...nal-1418T4RUNNERLEDTURN.FRONT2.0_2?quantity=1

They have a switchback option. Not sure whether we have CK or non-CK wiring.

Might be tempted to try these. Price is about same as DDs.

    This is a great find!

When I looked at the specs for the switchbacks, I found this:

    • COMPATIBILITY
      • Cross Compatibility: 7443, 7444, 7440

      • FITMENT: Signal, Marker, Brake, Tail, Reverse Lights

      • BLINKER CIRCUITS: Additional Resistors NOT Required!
I think that means we're good to go!

I tend to agree. I've looked at Headlight Revolution before during my days when I had my motorcycle and upgraded all the lights to LEDs. They are a decent outfit I think.

I did read the reviews on those lights and a couple did say that they had hyperflashing thus needing a resistor and that the amber is super bright but the white is not as bright but adequate for parking lights.

    Anyway, worth a look, definitely.

Thanks Pete, I really appreciate this find. I was dreading having to dig around blindly to install a resistor. I just checked Diode's site, and they're pretty generous with their return policy, so I'll get a full refund when I ship all their stuff back to them (even the stuff on the way that hasn't arrived yet!).

I just wanted a plug-n-play option that looked good and was priced right. The one you posted fits the bill. Oh, I searched the reviews for 4Runner owners: 2! Both have 5th gens and neither had hyper flashing problems.

I'll do a little more research in the morning and then place my order.

Hey, glad I could help. I was kinda wondering how that resistor install would work if things were as difficult as you stated. And the cost is the about same. I saw the same reviews so I'm going to pull the trigger soon too. I did just order an interior light LED set. I love the truck but man, those interior lights are some dim bulbs....:)

Full LED interior kit for the 4runner, for $20. It's what I have. it installed with ease and is a huge improvement.

Wow, U da Man....Thanks for that. Those look super bright. I ordered a kit from Vled and it was a hell of a lot more than that and the bulbs are less lumen. I'll definitely cancel and order those from Amazon.

    Much appreciated

I re-verified that the switchbacks will work (they have a built in resistor), so I ordered 'em! I think they'll arrive by Friday.

So, I have the Carbide's that we discussed on order and they may be here by the end of this week, but I found this today:

    https://www.headlightrevolution.com/2014-4Runner-Carbide-LED-Heads?quantity=1

    upload_2023-12-6_10-20-20.png

A few days ago I almost bought this, when it was $800. Now they're $600. The best part, no special adapters are needed for the 23' model years (with LED high beams. So it's $600 plus tax.

which one out of these two to get? I don't follow switchback -- does that mean combine DRL with turn signals? No resistor seems to be an upgrade in my book, confused which one would work for the turn signals?

A switch back means it changes colors. It's White as the DRL and changes to Amber for the turn signal. According to their website neither one (regular or switchback) need a resistor.

I have the switchbacks on order. I'll probably get them by this weekend? The LED's that I ordered from Diode, I returned today. I don't even want to try to install them.

I'm justifying it this way: I'm not SPENDING $600 dollars. I am SAVING $200 dollars by buying it now. I've been telling myself that for the last few hours. Still haven't bought it, yet. But damn...I sure wanna'.

No justification needed :devil::devil: Take a deep breath, then :spending:

BTW, have you done anything with your rear turns and back up lights? I've seen a kit that turns your LED brake lights into brake and turns and then makes the OEM turns and backups both backups.

    https://www.headlightrevolution.com/Tail-as-Turn-Signal-Kit-Toyota-4Runner-14-20_2?quantity=1

I don't want to do that, though. I think I'll just get these two bulbs and call it good

https://www.headlightrevolution.com...-carbide-bulbs-LED.BUL.7443.CAR2_2?quantity=1 I'll get the amber ones. Like the front turns, I hopefully won't have to mess with the resistors.

I went the other route: I bought a full LED set and installed them the first week I had the truck:

I thought about just doing bulbs, but I like these red lens lights vs the clear/chrome lens that I got from Toyota. It gives it a cleaner look. The lights were only $650 and shipped to me pretty fast.

I sold me my OEM's for $100. So I was able to recoup some of the cost, which was nice.

Okay, I learned something new today:

My 2023 Toyota 4Runner does not like switchback turn signals.

You can insert the LED in two different ways, and when I changed how it was plugged in, I got a different result.

Option 1) When the lights are completely off, the turn signal blinks AMBER. When I turn the lights on (not in DRL mode), they DO NOT blink at all. The rear's do and the turn signals on the mirror caps blink. But nothing happens to the front headlight.

Option 2) When the lights are completely off, the turn signal does not blink at all. Again, the rear lights blink and the mirror caps blink. When the lights are on (not DRL mode), the turn signals blink bright WHITE. They also stay white when they are not blinking.

To be honest, I'm very confused why this is happening. It's not a big deal, I guess? I have it set to option 2. I always drive with my lights in the "on" position, and the white LED is very bright. Oh, and no hyper flashing. So that's a huge relief.

Here are a few pictures of the lights and video's showing what the white/amber look like.

The LED's inside the headlight (Up close):

Well, that is bizarre :frustrated: That's the last thing I would have expected. I assume you used these lights:

    https://www.headlightrevolution.com...-carbide-bulbs-LED.BUL.7443.CAR2_2?quantity=1

For the fronts you used the switch back and the rear just the amber version or did you leave the rears as incandescent for now. I was planning on putting that bulb on both front and rear with the front being the switchback and rear just the amber.

One thought I had was that you may get in trouble with white front turns. I think they are required to be yellow if they are turns. The rears can be yellow or red in this country. I have a suspicion that in Europe and other countries the rears can only be yellow. Anyway, whatever. It doesn't solve the problem.

Sorry man. I'm at a loss. My truck will be identical to your so I'll be in the same situation. I'm going to research a bit and hope to find something but.....

I did find these bulbs but I don't think they will operate any differently. Amazon has them too at a little lower price for FWIW.

I did nothing to the rear lights at all or my mirror cap turn signals. I only touched the fronts. Well, that's not true. I swapped out the ENTIRE rear tail light assembly. But I didn't upgrade or change the LED/Bulbs, because...well, they didn't need it. I only mentioned them because they would hyper flash when I changed the turn signal lights.

Maybe I bought the wrong TYPE? There are a few types. CK/Non-CK/GTR.

    Screenshot 2023-12-08 19.57.06.png

This was what I ordered and installed:

    Screenshot 2023-12-08 19.53.27.png

I tried Googling "What the fuck is CK vs Non CK or GTR", but Google ignored me. So I decided to wing it. Shit didn't work out the way I wanted.

That's the one I thought would work. This explains the CK - non CK

I think we are non-CK. The reason I think that is that on this site it lists vehicles that should use the CK bulbs and ours isn't among them. Scroll down to the photos.

If you scroll down further, there is a link to a site which lists vehicles which need CKs

https://www.lasfit.com/pages/lasfit-vehicles-lists-for-ck-specific-sockets. Some Toyotas among them but not 4Rs.

I had thought of just buying the amber ones and plugging them in the front and forget about the parking lights. Never use the anyway and your DRL or headlights are on anyway. That's assuming the amber only would work as turn signals. I may order a set of amber only for the rear (and some backup lights) and see if they work in the front. Hopefully they'll at least work in the rear.

What a shit show. I also tried looking at your standard auto parts stores like Autozone, O'Reilleys, and Advance Auto and NONE of them list a front turn signal for our 2023 4R Anniv Edition. WTF is up with that.

    Oooh look, another mod.....

Okay, the first link makes think I ordered the wrong one. Which I assumed I did. I'll call the tech support line for Headlight Revolution and confirm this. If That's all it is, I'll swap out the LED for a NON-Ck style and get a refund for the CK's.

    Thankfully I didn't blow a fuse.

Oh, here's another odd issue that occurs: When I first installed the LEDs, I had no hyper flashing. Then I drove it, and had it, but it went away, then came back and went away?
