Definitely. I have an ORP and drive in deep sand occasionally. But, I don't use CC or MTS. In fact, I almost never use them. And, I don't use the locker in sand, either.

I usually use 4hi and turn off traction control, and air down the tires and I'm good. It wouldn't hurt to carry a shovel and traction boards just in case.

I don't recommend it to most people. It seems like most failures are caused by a lack of maintenance, but it's still an extra potential point of failure.

It's great for someone who will stick to modest modifications and mild to moderate off-roading. For heavy modification and more extreme off-roading it becomes a limitation.

It does have the added stability in cornering on pavement, but you have to decide if that is worth it to you. I really enjoy this aspect of it, but I think I would skip it if I bought again.

I did some aggressive cornering, and the action of KDSS was very obvious. Absolutely worth it for me. It makes the truck less truck-like lol

Educate me on the lack of maintenance thing. We just need to remove the plate and clean the housing. What else?

That's really all that I do. It seems like corrosion at the accumulator is the biggest cause of failure. Depending on how dirty I get it, sometimes I just hose it out with the shield on.

Most definitely. 4x4 if you would rather lose 2k, but guarantee that you're always making it home.

If you get red I would keep it well waxed and protected in that Florida sun. I think it will be more likely to fade quicker in the sun as opposed to Lunar Rock.

Pay for the Toyota care. It's $699, but includes ceramic coating.

I am curious about the maintenance on this as well. Where is the system located?

The system attaches to both sway bars on the driver's side. The hydraulic pistons are connected to an accumulator with hydraulic lines that run along the frame rail on the driver's side.

The accumulator is attached to the driver's side frame rail, just below the driver's door. It has a small shield that is attached with two bolts underneath. Whenever I get into the mud, I like to take off the shield and just hose it off carefully, and replace the shield.

You're correct about that! It's really not hard, but it can bite you in the ass if you skip it.

I never considered the Wrangler when I was shopping for the 4Runner. When Chrysler went away from the 4.0 I6 to the V6 I lost interest in getting one unless it was a used one, and they are expensive.

I did look at the new Bronco but didn’t like what I had read about the issues with the engine. I wish GM made an off road type vehicle but they don’t so I didn’t even look at them. The 4Runner is still a very solid vehicle and folks that I know who have them love them. I’m really liking mine.

I got the red one. Suddenly I have a craving to wear a dress.
