Just traded for a 2022 TRD off road, my second vehicle is a 99 4runner limited, 4x4 shifter buzzes when accelerating at low speeds, goes away once you reach 35-40 mph, it seems to be the little bezel on top of the knob, anyone know of a fix other than replacing it? Thanks

My 2023 shift lever also buzzes/vibrates. It will go away when you turn on the stereo :anonymous:

Is there anything touching the shifter, or boot? Like a charging cable?

The shifter is directly linked to the transfer case, so some vibration is normal. But, I thought I had read about the knobs rattling in some cases. Maybe unscrew the knob and see if it rattles when you shake it.

Get used to it and don't throw anything in there.

I have heard something of a part inside that shifter knob coming loose. You might try removing and inspecting what may be going on in there.

Those don't look half bad. What is the brand, or a link?

Pop the top cap off and there is probably loose plastic in there.

Take the top piece off (the gray piece with the shift patten on it). I had to pry it off. Either it is loose or a piece of it broke off. Then glue it back in place.

I had the same problem. Zero issues since gluing it in place. I used gorilla glue.

There's a plastic piece in the knob that comes loose or breaks and causes that buzzing. I just had mind replaced at the dealer earlier this year because of the noise...it was driving me nuts.

Just fixed this a few weeks ago myself. Like others have said, pry the top round piece(part with the shift pattern on it) off with a knife or a very small screw driver, etc. There will be a broken plastic tab inside the knob from the round piece. Remove it and glue the round piece back on with sone quality glue. Dont use too much glue to prevent it squishing out. Removing the know by unscrewing it from the shifter shaft helps.

Easy repair, screw off knob, pop the silver cap off, clean out plastic pieces from broken off tabs, big dollop of rtv silicone to adhere the cap down, screw knob back on, done!

Perhaps aftermarket knobs like glwood54 and I did?

TRD S 3.jpg Perhaps shifter knob replacement like I did :)
