Looking for the best and most “safe options” for making my new 23 SR5P have remote start. Do I buy something aftermarket ? Can I install myself or should I take it to a dealer / someone else ?
My only concerns are that it may void a factory Warranty. Or is this not a thing ??

Sorry - new to this and looking for best options

Thanks. I appreciate the guidance. I read through the posts in that thread. Still hav some questions — can I take it to the dealership to be done ? I don’t know if I trust my skills to be tearing apart part of the dash etc.

I'm not savvy on this, but more than one member has accidentally discovered that their 4Runner actually has remote start. Some combination of button presses on the fob, I think. Maybe someone will chime in.

As far as the install. Yes, you can pay the stealership to install anything you want. Just call them and make sure you don't have to buy the OEM from them first.
I installed it myself on my SR5P with no issues, but I appreciate the apprehension on your side if you aren't mechanically inclined on things.

Or if you buy from a Best Buy or custom shop, they will more than likely have someone to pay to install it too. You'll just have to check around your area.

It shouldn't void your warranty, but you can get that in writing from the stealership also before preceding also. That may also prompt you to choose the stealership to install it too.

If you take it to the dealer they will probably want to install the brand they carry.

Don't kick yourself. ORP doesn't have remote start either. Need a Pro or Limited (I think they have a different head unit and for some reason it's tied to that).

I went through this last year, and it really isn't that bad to do. Yes, it looks intimidating but remember, this is a new vehicle so the plastic is still flexible enough that the risk of breaking things like the tabs is almost non existent. I bought one from Amazon, and had it installed and back together in under an hour, taking plenty of time to read the post I was following and drinking a beverage. I will warn you though, with the keyless system, the car will shut off when you open the door, even the factory one does this!

This is the one I used, truly plug and play!! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B083CP8514/?coliid=I1WV7OK1U5USGB&colid=3NMPIIX2NX38F

@toyotahenry I just picked up a new 2023 ORP. I thought that it would have the remote start, but apparently it doesn't. I just tried the steps you outlined above and got nothing. I held for maybe 20 seconds on the 3rd button press.

Only the Pro Bro and Limited have it in the US unless you had the dealer installed whatever they offer.

I just got done installing this (Start-X) and the ASCL6 Car Link unit for mobile on the gf's runner for Xmas. This was on a 2016, key start. Installation probably took 25 minutes. The other hour was figuring out how to cleanly tuck the wiring away and mount the Car Link Unit without it being close to metal and with the door of the unit facing "up" per the instructions. As well as setting up the app and testing it.

I had to ask her girlfriend to come get her for a ladies night so I could do it. She almost left with her keys and I was like, "I need those to move your rig out of the way so I can work on my car!" Let's just hope she doesn't hit the unlock button 3x now on accident haha. I walked out this morning and noticed for the last day, I guess I popped the hood when removing the lower plastic knee panel. Good thing for the "safety" latch on them. That would have been a giveaway that I did something to her 4runner if she had noticed the hood gap.

Yeah my Pro has the App on my phone, lock/unlock doors & start , But yeah it does shut off when door is open. I was gonna pit one on my 2018 TRD OR, can't remember the brand. had great reviews & was basically plug & play. Do a search for remote start, it'll pop up.

I think it's 2020 (?) up that has the engine kill with the door open. With this 2016 I just did, you can open the door and hop in. If you hit the brake pedal, it will kill the engine, but if you don't and insert the key and just switch it to the "on" position, you can take off driving as normal.
