Ive heard 1,000 miles. I am doing the same thing. Im not used to a vehicle this slow, so Im trying to relearn driving anyways lol.

Interesting! Glad it was an easy fix.

What's "paint correction?" I searched the forum and didn't find anything about this term.

I wouldn't own a vehicle without PPF. I only did the usual 3/4 up the hood and fenders PPF on my Tacoma and had some chips on the hood above the PPF, and on the roof line.

For my 4Runner I did the entire hood, fenders, bumper/grille, head lights, fog lights, A pillars, roof line and door cups. My co-worker has a nice Subaru Crosstrek and has no PPF. The amount of rock chips on her poor car is unbelievable.

OP - first 10ooo miles T4R Has to have TGMO with 800 ppm of Moly. even you change oil at first 1000 miles, change it with TGMO, not Mobil1 or anything. after 10000 miles you may use any good oil, not cheap shiit. as of PPF - if you can change oil, you sure able to diy, it is not a rocket science. at list on roof and hood. As of pedal commander - it will burn AT torque plate faster than you think. you want fast responce - drive in S3. you want quite - keep driving gm. you want economy - drive Prius. you want soak in mud - buy ATV. you want your Runner worth something after couple years - do not modify anything and change oil and all liquids religiously. dont forget rust proof frame inside and outside. since this forum heavily sponsored by aftermarked companies, choice is yours.

OP - please do NOT attempt to apply PPF yourself. You are already spending money on a quality vehicle so do the same for PPF and a professional installer. Do your research when it comes to PPF. Many of us on this forum have went with Xpel and there is a good reason why!!

Paint correction is basically buffing out any orange peel, haze or small surface scratches before laying down the PPF. It assures that “wet look” shine. Although on a newer vehicle it’s really not necessary. Older vehicles benefit the most from it.

Highly recommend PPF if it fits in your budget. Have taken both of my recent new cars straight to my detail guy with under 10 miles on the odo for tint, paint correction (yes, even factory new paint isn’t perfect), PPF (full front, full fenders, rockers, flares, rear bumper, door cups, door sills, some other misc high wear areas), and the ceramic coating they bake on.

Just know, from a good shop, all this is pretty steep $. Only do it if you really care to preserve the paint as much as some of us.

Would advise against you trying to PPF yourself. Material itself is expensive, thick, and difficult to work with. They get the panels like laser cut and still heard parts of the 4Runner were a bitch to do.

PPF on hood and roof is a must! bird poop very corrosive and left on a roof, unnoticed, will eat through clear coat and paint and base coat and bare metal will corrode in no time. Protect plastic bumper's paint from chips? - that's up to you. PPF not protect doors from shopping carts or other people door's edges on parking lot or on next available spot next to handicap spot - disable people usually open car doors wide open, no blame assigned here. Ceramic coating only for luster, weak defense against rocks and shopping carts, but good protection against dulling clear coat in dirty carwashes. one roll of PPF on Amazon will cover two hoods and one roof, all for less than $200. It is laughable that people do expensive lifts and mods and other car mutilations and afraid to do paint protection film themselves or rust proofing.

I just spent the last 2 days removing the clear bra on my 2015 sr5. Pros- paint looks good under protected surfaces.
Cons- the clear bra was yellowed, pitted, and starting to fail. There is still lots of tough residue/glue left behind. If it were me, I’d plan on removing it every 5 years or so and reapplying. Also, my front bumper didn’t have it and it’s pitted and crappy.

Our local detailer we use ended up getting a couple I’d very minor paint scratches buffed out that were left over from dealer prep.

So far a month and a half of ownership and I’m just shy of 950 miles. Mostly city and idling time.

Our detailer will be applying undercoating protection here in a few weeks.
