Hello! I'm in Kansas and south of the Kansas City metro area and need help with First Gen 4 runners. I've had three 4runners and recently went and reacquired my very first one that has been sitting under a tree for nearly 20 years. It's a 87 2.4L and the engine has been rebuilt and it will briefly start but the injectors won't open. I've tried 3 ECMs, the original, one bought off a running 4runner and one from Rock Auto (Blue Streak) and that hasn't worked. The wire harness has been checked over and repaired and that hasn't worked. I need some help finding a mechanic experienced with 1st gen 4runners. If anyone knows any in the area, please let me know! Also if anyone knows where i can get a new wire harness for this model that would be great. Thanks in advance!

The video is from an 88' I sold a few years ago. I had a warm start issue that I couldn't figure out. I did find a hack by unplugging the AFM (also replaced with reman) and then reconnect quickly after starting.
Anyway, I throw this scenario out there because your AFM may not be sending the right signal to the ECM. Also, could it be a corrupted cold start injector signal? I never got good at working out the little quirks of the 22re, but it was a fun little truck.

MI-FL off roader - Thanks for the recommendations! I tried unplugging the AFM and that didn't work. I'm new to this...any tips on how i determine if it's s corrupted cold start injector?

Can anyone recommend how i test the ECMs to see if they actual work? I have 3 now and won't to rule them out as the potential issue...

I was thinking maybe you could test the AFM to see if it's working properly. My video was meant to show you how finicky they are, sorry for the confusion. Would have been great if it worked lol. I was thinking that there might be a ground wire or secondary signal wire coming from the AFM or the Cold Start Inj. that might not be making it to the ECM. I never really got any farther than me tinkering around trying to fix it.
I researched IH8MUD for quite some time and threw several parts at it to get it to run right in the begining, but couldn't figure out the warm start problem.
