Didn't go with electric winch on front.

I thought about it for a while now but decided to go with a wyeth scott power puller hand winch (3 ton dead lift 12k lbs drag 35' of synthetic line) for my recovery system when I go out solo.
I really only do extreme off roading when I'm with a group and like every jeep out there has a winch. I didn't want the extra weight on my front or the drain on my electrical system. So I decided to buy the wyeth scott winch. I also ordered 4 soft shackles, 2-8' tow straps (3" wide), 1- 20' tow strap, 30" kinetic rope, rear receiver recovery point, and 2 steel bolt on front recovery points.
I figure it will just take some time and muscle but I can get unstuck by myself if need be. Plus if I had to move a log or something I can have a bit more mobility and better angle with the hand winch. Also side, front and rear pulls on my rig. Any thoughts?

It's probably better than nothing but you do you. I wouldn’t bother.

How do you wind the winch and drive out at the same time?

    I think it's a great idea.

I've wheeled with a retired military guy whose recovery gear was basically a hand winch and a shovel. I think you'll be able to get yourself out of a jam, and having the ability to pull from almost any angle can be super handy. And, if you ever decide to get a winch, this can be a backup.

Sounds like we have something in common. I get stuck way more often when I'm with a group. :anonymous:

I definitely like using mine to help others. But, I've used it to free myself more than anything. And, it's handy for pulling shrubs, and other household tasks. :D

I used it to pull a Tacoma sideways last year when he somehow got himself into tree jail.

One thing I might add to your list is an extra long tow strap, just in case there isn't a decent tree close enough to where you get stuck. I actually used 2 30' straps to extend my winch line on one occasion last year. It was certainly an interesting situation, and I'm sure I could have dug out instead if the winch didn't reach. But, it made the recovery a lot easier.

Glad I'm not the only one using mine to pull shrubs and the like. :-D
