What happened? Being a rare 2 door, good luck in finding replacement glass. Not sure if it is the same as a 4 door one.

Wish I knew! I keep Patches in the Garage. Only thing I can think of is a temperature change. It is different than a 4 door model. Bummer for me!

Mike, since you are in California, I would ask around some of the glass shops and see if you can get one made. It might cost quite a bit more, but it would restore your beautiful T4R.

As a follow up, I talked to a local glassman. There is ONE rear-quarter panel glass OEM (for the 2nd Gen, 2door model), in the U.S. My out the door cost will be roughly $1k! May try to find a fabricator for a window delete.

Were these sold overseas? Expand your search beyond the US.

The 2 door window looks like a shorter version of the 4 door back glass. Is it possible to cut the back glass of a 4 door to the length of a 2 door?

Because tempered glass is held together with internal stresses it will break all over the moment the surface gets compromised. I bet it had a chip in the glass that weakened it long before this happened. Temperature could of done it in.

The 2nd generation 4runner was sold in more countries than any other generation, but the 2 doors were just as rare there too. Shipping costs would likely negate any money saved if you looked outside the US.
