Spoke to the dealer about the drivers side headrest wobble I have been experiencing. They escalated this to Toyota and was told that this is normal. I told them if this was normal why do none of the other headrests wobble. They stated that the headrest does this in all 5th gen 4Runners. I have attached a video of my issue and would appreciate if you all could help me out on whether this happens to you or not. Thank you.

I have a 21 TRD ORP with about 1k miles on OD.

Fairly certain ours has no movement either. Wife took our 4R to work today, so I’ll double check this evening.

Lol...that line just never gets old.

Seriously though... sorry about your troubles...sounds annoying.

    The link works.........

Horse pucky! They escalated it to Toyota, BS they did. In the words of a service manager who occasionally posts here.

"4Runner Problems? “Get Toyota involved quickly is my best advice.”

Under normal circumstances I would not, for this, and since the dealer/they? are lying to you. It's time to bust their ass.

Phone: 800-331-4331 - tell them the whole story.

    Keep us posted.

Do you run yours in the full up position? Mine are so new there's no wobble.

Thank you for letting me know, if you have a video or can make one that be great to show the dealer and Toyota.

Please let me know and if possible a video clip would be great to show the dealer and Toyota

I will definitely be letting the dealer and Toyota know once I get some more evidence of this not being normal. The headrest does lock but still wobbles. It almost appears as if the plastic pegs are loose but when I look at it, it is seated properly.

Yes, hate when they say this.

Sorry. I thought about this as well, but none of the other headrests in the car have play.

I have them on first notch usually. The wobble is on every notch except for when headrest is completely down. You mind sending me a video clip of your headrest that does not wobble? My vehicle has slightly over 1k miles on the OD.

Turns out mine does have a wobble. Never noticed until now. Won’t let me upload the video, but only slightly less wobble on mine compared to your video.

Thank you for checking. Is it just one headrest or all are about the same?

If I extend the drivers headrest up from the seat back it has a little play fore and aft, but seems normal, not excessive.

It is not a cheap car and shouldn’t have any major issues if at all. Thank you for understanding the frustration.

Thank you for letting me know.

Did you ever find a solution to this? My 2021 has the same movement back and forth and it seems cheap. My 2013 Tundra is solid as can be as is my wife's 2016 Outback. Funny thing is the rear headrests in the 4R seem tight.

Definitely still trying to take care of this. It does feel cheap since it’s only my driver side headrest that does it. I will let you know if it is resolved. Please let me know if you or anyone has resolved this issue.

Thanks! Interesting that it is only one side for you. May have to bring mine by the dealership also. Best of luck to us both...

Any update on this issue? Were you ever able to resolve it? I just got a 23' and have a similar issue.

    Thanks,

I took mine in do to a wobble front to back. Dealer said it was normal.

what a bummer. If it was normal you’d think the passenger side would do it as well. Only my driver side does it. Maybe I’ll take the guides out and wrap something around them. It’s the plastic guides that the headrest slides into that’s the issue.
