This makes sense to me as ATRAC is selectable permitted wheel-spin and ATRAC is fixed minimal wheel-spin, likely less spin than the Rock setting in MTS. What I don’t understand is why is ATRAC selectable in CRAWL? Thoughts?

It's all different terms for the same thing. I didn't even know ATRAC was available with CRAWL because it does the same thing but with speed control.

This is why a locker is better.

Because Atrac is Situational only, IMO. Atrac for me is basically a locker when you are up in the air spinning one wheel and the system detects it...then stops that spinning and sends the power to the other wheel. That's why I think of as "situational". As opposed to MTS when you are moving at low speeds and the system is detecting the terrain and the amount of power needed to get thru.

This is how I see it my head....I could be wrong though.

I didn’t either and assumed it was not but I selected ATRAC today while in Crawl and it was permitted. Tried ATRAC with MTS and got a message saying “not permitted”

Not to do with ATRAC specifically but Mud/Rock MTS works in 4wd high before a certain speed.

Yes, I saw in the manual you can use the max wheel-spin setting only in 4 Hi. That’s cool. Make sense with faster speeds. My 2016 Tacoma TRDOR did not permit any MTS use in 4 Hi. Strange these 2 platforms would have that difference?

CRAWL will only give a limited and controlled amount of throttle, where ATRAC will allow for a wide range of throttle. I would use both in cases where I am going from stuck crawling to needing more throttle and more traction. Like transitioning from sand/mud to Rock/hard ground.

That makes sense. I don’t think I considered the possibility of transitioning from Crawl conditions to something faster.

Crawl control will get you out if you buried yourself in sand. Others probably wont.

If you're really stuck, it's your best option before witching, unless of course you're able and willing to just send it....if you can get speed. Which you can't if you've buried yourself in sand.

Supper different situations. Crawl control can also really help if you ever run into a road that's all rocks. Where your truck is moving so much its hard to even stay on the gas as a consistent level. Just let the crawl control do it.

Here's a great video that explains the difference between Atrac and MTS. It says that Atrac is more designed to get you out of a stuck situation and only regulates the brakes (same as ChessGuy's "situational"), whereas MTS is more of a driving mode that regulates both braking and throttle response.

A trac is like applying brakes to not dig in but controlled by computer isn't it. New to me. Only thing I ever wanted was crawl because I thought that's how it worked, but it's not $15k more important for me.
