So the wife has basically claimed my 4runner and I'm bored with my tj Rubicon as 3rd vehicle. So do I get a higher mileage 5th Gen or a good 3rd Gen. This will be a third vehicle as stated but I want something reliable and I can build for mild trips

    Opinions welcome

If you want it for trips, 3rd gens are pretty old. If you want to keep it reliable, you'd probably be doing more maintainance work on it, if you want to keep up with the stuff that’s wearing out. I’m not saying it’s a bad idea, but you’d have to enjoy working on your rig. It’s nice to see well kept 3rd gens on the road.

That said, the older 5th gens are also getting pretty old lol. I’d say after 10-12 years is when a good car usually start asking for expensive parts or work.
