What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

Installed some drop steps today.

 

Installed Amazon rear window molle panels and shelf today. Happy with the end result. Did mod it a bit from it's orginal configuration a bit for mostly aesthetics but I also added an "in between" level for the shelf to get the height I wanted.
I went this route because they are aluminum alloy and the shelf can be installed at different heights and slid in or out from the front of the vehicle without major disassembly (just unbolt the shelf from the panels).

 

Hmmm, pretty sure that was the one that was supposed to come in my 4runner. I think the dealer kept it so they could sell it online.

Just kidding…although it’s probably true lol

 

I like the added TRD emblem to hide the logo.

I have the same ones from Amazon. However, I didn't get the shelf because I didn't read the entire post beforehand . And sadly, the don't sell the shelf independently. These are similar to Rago Fabrication, but just different enough not to violate any copyright laws.

Can you post a link to the exact item? These look pretty nice. Do they make any rattling noise while driving? Is drilling required?

The price is fluctuating a bit on these in the last week. I paid around $320ish for them as there was coupon on the listing. Not bad for the price point for sure. I do think they look pretty nice. I liked the looks of the Cali Raised a lot, but went this route instead. Came with some quick clamps, too but I don't know if I'll use them.
A few of the parts were scratched up but I'm not sure how because it was packaged pretty well. You can see in the emblem pics I posted that I had to spray the "wing" of one of the side molle panels because it was scratched up pretty bad. It matched up pretty well with some Krylon I had and there's a metal bend that allows for decent eye distraction so it's not noticeable (not to mention lighting back there is horrible anyway!
No drilling unless you want to drill another set of holes for a different shelf mounting level. I did end up installing an "in between" level one row above what I have in the picture. This level allows for most cooler heights but still isn't in the driver's rear view picture. Not sure why they didn't do that in production. Also, it still allows for full recline of the rear 2nd row without interference!
As far as rattling, I just put them in last night so I can't say for sure. There is a foam insulator between the shelf, the shelf bracket, and the shelf bracket-to-molle panel which I assume is to limit potential noise. It mounts pretty solidly to the vehicle with hex, flat button head hardware using locknuts and flat washers, so it should be good to go. I guess we'll see!

 

I bought mine during a fall sale. There wasn't free shipping, but with the discount, I think I still saved about $90 as well.

 

No rattles whatsoever from the China cargo rack after a month, but my fire extinguisher mount is another story.



A mirror dashcam like the one above from my old car (except more reliable and less kludgey) would be great for actually using the shelf and still being able to see.

 

But... the colors don't match!!

Very interested in how that combo turns out for you; I haven't pulled the trigger on springs yet. Did Ironman not have a front spring you liked?

 

Haha…. Can’t see the rears anyway! And to be honest… I placed my order on the Dobi’s a few weeks back…302’s were a bit behind I shipping, AND, I was just going to use spacers…. But I saw the sale and said WTH…. Cant see the rear springs unless you crawl under. I’m installing b
Next weekend…. I’m beat! Did my lady’s Rotors, Calipers and brakes on the Sprinter

 

Yeah I feel ya, not looking forward to taking the springs back out. Also still nervous about picking the wrong height/weight combo and having to do it again.

 

Mine 2018 didn't come W/one but my 2023 did.

 

My 2019 came with that. Thought it was standard.

 

Meh… I can have the front apart in 20min. Need 90min from wheels off to wheels on to swap out coils.

I wish you could buy just one side. I want a driver's side only, really don't need panels on both sides. Oh well...

I did the same. I was shocked that it didn’t come with the 4R.
Even more shocked 2 days ago when my mother in law bought a brand new rav4 and hers came out with the portfolio.

 

Used her to move the new popup around so I could treat the top before it gets stored in for the winter. We will see how she likes the mountains pulling the popup with 33's, bumper and winch next summer. Thinking of getting a tune to help her out a little bit.

 

Been a long while since I was towing at your altitude but I'd expect you wouldn't notice a pop-up even fully loaded with your 33s. Might save the tune money for other mods (unless you're just looking to justify the tune, surely your lady doesn't spend time hanging out with us on this forum!)

I had a 2004 sport that came with one. My 2015 SR5 didn't - I asked the sales person about it and she disappeared and came back with one and handed it to me.
My 2017 ORP came with one. So it may be the trim that dictates whether you get one or not.
