I have a fifth GEN forerunner, 2022 trd off road. When I’m on low RPMs or when I’m stopped at a red light it stall. It dies then sometimes it turns on sometimes, it just cranks Cranks Cranks.no code at all coming from it.( first me and The Mechanic thought it might be the battery issue we were replaced it with a yellow top Altima battery)didn’t work. We’re debating whether it’s a fuel pump issue or something else, we still don’t know. Just here to hear more opinions about this ? ( having this problem for almost a month.)

First off welcome to the forum, Two quick initial thoughts are below.

Are you getting and CEL lights and if so what codes are showing.

Have you inspected to ensure no rodents have taken residence in the engine bay and started gnawing on any of the harnesses?

So I do get the check engine, light and check it with my OBD two scanner. No codes at all. It’s too bad that I can’t send a video of how it stalls. It won’t let me on this post. I definitely will check harness around my engine today to see whether or not it’s “OK”. Thank you

One more thing . Might need a new one to be honest. Mechanic. but I do off-road it pretty much abuse it to be honest. I assume even if I take it to Toyota as long as it doesn’t stall in front of them, they cannot determine whether or not what’s wrong with it.( It never stall in front of my mechanic) They will just assume blame the aftermarket things on it.

Being a 2022 are you already out of your factory warranty?

Don’t ignore the possibility it actually is caused by the aftermarket things on it. What have you installed? Anything that is wired in to the electrical system in some way? Details will help collective brainstorming.

I do have a aux panel into it got installed by “Yoda mafia” about maybe four months ago and I got aftermarket headlights, but I recently just went back to the original. I got different battery is yellow top Altima with my ss3 and ss5.(1 year ago install )Tail lights from alpha Rex.( 2 year ago install) first signs of stalling out it was offloading. Stalled out on a decline. Has stalled out three times today. Try to take it to Toyota. They said they will hold it until Monday. But can’t work on it until Wednesday or Thursday so I told them I’ll just come back.(sadly my only daily gas eating car)

Went to alternator test again got 13.6 voltage don’t know if that’s ideal. I’ve been looking around to see whether or not that’s good or bad but they said (AutoZone) “it was good.”

Little bit more information whenever it’s about to die it feels like it’s stuttering ( sometimes it doesn’t even show that it’s about to die, but usually the stuttering) and the only way that I seem to be able to not stall out at that moment, is to press gas pedal as hard as possible and rev up to high RPMs and it stays “alive”. I’ve been keeping it gear selection has not died from that yet because of higher RPMs . Really wish I could show a video on here, but sadly cannot.

Some thoughts for trouble shooting, based on what I’ve read on this forum. ….If any of your headlights or tail lights use the fuel injector circuit they should be a prime suspect. Anything else that taps into the fusebox under the hood should be suspect as well, because some of those circuits might need super stable voltage if they are running into the ECU. Putting aftermarket headlights or tail lights into those circuits isn’t necessarily bad if everything is working, but some of those aftermarket lights fail more than they should for what they cost.

Also, have you pressure washed your engine? If so, pull the coil pack on the number 6 cylinder and look in the tube with a flashlight. If you see rust in there, replace spark plug and coil pack. If you’re wondering why this advice is super specific….don’t ask.

I love to take it to warranty, but most likely won’t get warranty because you know Toyota;) but thank you so much I’m definitely going to check this tomorrow my day off tomorrow, so I’m going to try and see what’s up with this 4runner

You might want to ask yota mafia too. They might warranty their work

Have you modified the air intake system (filter or air box)?

Got that one vacuum hose from air intake to back of engine intake to that little emissions valve of some kind? They aren't going to let you pollute.

    Demand warranty.

Saw a video on YouTube and it was low oil shut off causing it on another Toyota.

Check your oil. Don't take anyone's word. Half of what you see and none of what you hear. Any oil changes lately and they forgot oil? Stranger than fiction sometimes

Update guys. Sally, I have not been to Toyota dealership I work 13 hours shifts Monday through Wednesday. but me and my friend on Sunday checked all the fuses, tested them. My switch panel did go into the 10A ING fuse took that off Ran amazing after that, but just today it’s finally started to stall before even driving it. I do oil change every 5000 miles by myself. I don’t let no one else touch it sometimes 4000mlies, currently at 53,000 miles. My “mechanic” did air test and all my houses and stuff to see where it’s leaking or anything he said “it was not the issue but something else” this Thursday. I will try to take it there to Toyota and see if they can but I feel like they won’t warranty shit because that’s how they are once you upgrade anything

At 53,000 miles you just have powertrain left, nothing electrical will be covered.

I installed a tiny aftermarket 12V to 5V inverter (from china) and started generating a weird frequency when it failed, it knocked out the starting electronics. Mine is a 2023 bought last Nov, talk about Freaking Out!

Not pressing the brake, press start button twice and nothing comes on in the dash. Turns out the INTEGRATION RELAY module was damaged. It's located in the engine bay relay box.
    Integration Relay part#: 82641-60140 $130 from dealership.

The latest 4R with push button start is a bit sensitive to any 3rd party electronics especially LED modules. Only buy stuff from reputable brands if you want your 4R electronics to not die on you.

P.S. your fuel pump relay and ACC#1 are on that module, it's not separated out like Tacoma. That is the only crap design I hate about the new push button 4R's.

Sadly, no codes, no nothing just runs good for a couple days. You’re right electronic will now get a cover so it’s even worth it taken into them? They probably won’t even find the problem just charge me $1 million.

Obviously something you had installed is causing the issue. I would take everything off and go back to stock

I don’t disagree with that. These are “professionals” that installed my stuff. Everything that has been installed on my forerunner. He has been months and it’s been doing recently. Whatever the issue truly is but I will try to put it back to stock so far we’re on the fuses again to see we messed up or something.

Any third party electronics can cause issues. With the truck running, put a meter on the battery if you see fluctuation more than 1V or use the Hz counter. DC should give you 0 hertz, if you see any frequency reading on the counter then it’s the installed electronics generating a back feed.
