I’ve had dark window tint on all my cars since the age of 18 here in MA. Have only been pulled over once when I was maybe 19 or 20.

Since then, got a DOT medical tint waiver for all my cars and sorted it for life. Ironically, ever since then over a decade ago, have never been pulled over for tints lol so just use it to pass inspection now.

I also don’t drive with our required front license plate on any of my cars, just quickly hook it on the grill via magnetic hooks when I’m in the city and park on the street (meter maids can give those tickets and I believe it’s a moving violation).

You probably just got unlucky to fall on one of the few cops who cares, as this kind of ticket is usually an add on for speeding or something more serious. Even state troopers that have pulled me over here don’t care and have never asked about the tint or front plate.

If this waiver is out of the question for you, just immediately roll your windows down when pulled over going forward. If you keep getting them and being that dark isn’t super important to you, maybe just throw 35% legal limit tints on the front and eliminate the hassle.

I am trying to understand the context of your post. So running illegal tints for years and having a doctor's prescription now as a work around, something of a personal victory?

It should work the other way as well. LE shouldn’t be allowed to have very dark tint on their vehicles. Just like they say it’s a safety thing for them, which I agree it is, it should also be a safety thing for us that we can see them in their vehicles.

Who said it was a “work around” when both an MD and the DOT medical board approved it?

Just sharing my experience with window tints, front plates, and how most cops typically don’t care to enforce as a standalone ticket.

    Confused with your point?

Do you have a medical condition that warrants a tint beyond allowable limits?

Why is that? Have you ever heard of a driver approaching a LEO vehicle and getting shot because the driver couldn't see the LEO was about to murder them? C'mon man. That's a stupid argument.

Yes….hence the DOT medical waiver? Again, confused with your point.

Then this thread is moot for you. You are protected under law.
The issue was, to being stopped for having dark tints beyond limit without a valid reason or permission. So in that spirit I deduced your post as someone who found a doctor to receive a waiver to run dark tints.

    Addressed that as well.

I’m friends with cops and many could care less about tints, front plates, and other minor equipment violations. Because some rules, like only LE and medical patients being able to have privacy glass on their cars, are dumb…..and dumb laws are often ignored by both LE and citizens.

The whole “maybe they’re pointing a gun at the cop!” argument is laughable. Show me the overwhelming evidence that tints are widely used by criminals to ambush cops at traffic stops? Rear windows also impede visibility for an approaching officer yet are legal. Cops also routinely respond to calls to a suspect’s home where they can legally have all windows covered.

It’s not our job to make the world toddler proof for LE. If OP can find an actual work around or continue using “illegally” with no enforcement, power to him.

This is almost as dumb as the thread about running ditch lights because his tint was too dark to drive safely.

I've never understood the obsession with blacked out windows. If it's the rear doors or rear window, that's one thing. But, why do people want to make it harder to see when they're driving?

Lol I remember when I worked in Law Enforcement and every coworkers personal cars in the parking lot all had limo tint. For the most part the majority of cops don’t care for tints in the front. You will get pulled over for tinting a front windshield though.

I'm a LEO and have never once heard LEO'S can have illegally tinted windows. You should try making a felony traffic stop sometime while not being able to see into a window because it's tinted so dark.
The argument of having windows covered at home is also laughable. Your house is not being operated on a public road way.

I got a tint ticket in GA by a cop in a blacked out Tahoe. Good thing I have a vision prescription and an incredible lawyer.

You should try being a vulnerable woman driving around in a city with human trafficking happening everywhere. To some, the ticket or your opinion isn't worth their safety.

The obvious workaround for women being human trafficked due to no tint is for them to just blur out their faces while driving, like they do for their kids on facebook.

I mean he does have a point to an extent. The amount of Deputies Ive seen using their cellphones while driving and vehicle violations on their own personal cars is pretty hypocritical lol

The worst offenders are the LEOs using those damn computers. Slowest to move at a green light… crazy the number of officers I’ve driven by using them while moving. If phone usage is a ticketable offense what should these LEOs be ticketed with? We are all human after all. They are no better than everyone else

Yeah, they don't like that. You need to be subtle. Hang a uniform shirt in the back window instead.

That's lame. What percent tint do you have and what's legal in your state?

I don’t know about your state but law enforcement agencies are exempt from window tint restrictions here. It’s why you hear others having encountered cops with dark windows. Ok for them to have, safety concern for others.

I respect law enforcement but I don’t endorse toddler proofing the world for your convenience. And no, I did not voluntarily choose that as a career so I have no desire to do a felony traffic stop because dark windows frighten you.
