Hi All! Just bought my 2nd new 4Runner on Saturday. A 2023 Limited. I bought my first new limited in 2003 and drove it 12 years before handing it off to my son who drove it 5 before he traded to a RAV4. I can already tell that quality of the 4Runners has declined in 20 years. Im looking forward to this group. Thanks for admitting me!

Keep in mind I’ve had it less than 48 hours but we drove for 8 hrs yesterday to the beach. So far, the doors are much lighter and I have to slam them to fully shut. No lighter touches. The seats don’t cool as well, it is not Bluetooth! I have to use a cord to tie in my iPhone! Even my 2012 F150 is Bluetooth. The carpet mats are thinner and cheaper. The backup camera is hazy at night. Maybe I’m expecting too much but for a $50k+ vehicle, I expected more.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your new 4Runner.

That rear camera, to me, does leave a lot to be desired. The one in my 2007 Tundra has much better clarity.

I have a 2023 ORP. The cord is required for Apple CarPlay. But Bluetooth definitely works. I play songs off Utube all the time using Bluetooth. You must select Source, then choose Bluetooth. If you phone is paired, it plays. The cord allows the display unit to replicate your phone completely but Bluetooth works. Regarding slamming doors, I noticed in mine that if the windows are all up (moonroof closed and rear hatch closed), I too have to close door firmly. It’s because it is so tightly sealed with the weatherstripping. Any vent path permits closing the last door easily.

    BTW: Welcome !

    Welcome Linda,

I hope your new 4Runner grown on you.

My wife hated it at first, now I can’t stop her taking it to the mall and grocery store…. Hahaha

Welcome from the center of the bourbon universe. Yeah, bluetooth should work easily. At least you have CarPlay. Didn't have that in the 4R until the 2020 models and of course mine's a 2019.

Hi Linda, Welcome! This is my first day in the forum. I was driving a Lexus RX, but a kid driving a sedan hit me and flipped me 3 times, so when I went shopping for a new vehicle I went for the rock solid 4Runner. I am learning where things are and I have an iPhone, too, and haven’t tried the Car Play, so thanks for bringing that up. I have to get used to where things are in this new 4Runner because things are moved around compared to my previous vehicles.

I was bummed when I found out I’d have to plug in my phone for CarPlay. Firstly because I love the convenience of a wireless charging cradle. Secondly because my lightning port isn’t reliable. We bought a CarlinKit adapter and are very happy with it so far. The adapter plugs into the 4Runner’s USB port and our phones automatically connect to it thru Bluetooth when we start the car. It probably adds 20s to the CarPlay startup time. (During that time you can choose which phone to connect to. I’ve never had to do that.)

Well, I’m with Dabigono, my 4Runner drives away all the time without me in it and my wife waving goodbye, “going to run some errands honey”! Welcome to the forum!
