    Oooh look, another mod.....

Sure, the outside looks good, but what about the frame? Any service records? What does the interior & seats look like? Any signs of leaking from the engine?

It is 18 years old. Unless it's dirt cheap and a recreational vehicle, as a daily driver it is obsolete.

Car looks great! No rusted frame is good news!

Silver is a great color to care for, it has 4 wheel drive

Where are you located? Just check other ‘comps’ in your area to see if it’s a good deal.

seems a tidbit high for a v6, BUT does appear to be in really good shape… so could be reasonable. I almost daily my 2004 with 242k miles (v8) so I wouldn’t really worry about that aspect.

just know that an 18 year old vehicle, no matter how great will probably require some money for maintenance items (hoses, fluids, etc) so build in a buffer for that type of stuff.

I think this looks like a good deal. If no rust, or major engine or transmission issues, then you can get another 100K out of this. Watch...a V8! This thing could climb a tree if you want. I almost bought one like this a few years back but it was too rusty underneath.

    Thanks for your reply brother!
I am only 23 and wanted something reliable, v8 is good and fun, but more maintenance for me to take on!
V6 is the way for now.
Land Cruiser is next for sure!
How do you like to daily your 4runner?
Planing on moving to WA from MA soon, as well as driving it from CA to MA. Long trips, sleep in the car. Any suggestions for the long trips?
    Love you all here!

Being that it's a 2005 and a V6, you need to check the build date, look on the VIN sticker on the driver's door jamb for the build date, if it's 12/05 or later it has the re-designed/update head gaskets on it, if the date is before 12/05 then it has the old designed head gaskets and they could fail...or not...unless the head gaskets have been replaced already.

Other than that it looks to be in very good condition, a little bit on the high side price wise for my area IMHO...but from reading your last reply it appears it's in California and that's price seems about the going rate out there.

V8 or v6 they will both be reliable (check that head gasket issue as mentioned below tho…) I love DD’ing mine, except for the gas mileage. I also have a 2014 Tacoma that I switch back n forth with when I feel like it. No suggestions for long trips except making sure maintenance items are kept up to date. Sleep in safe areas lol.

Run the 4WD through all modes to be sure it works, check the frame carefully for rust, and make any deal contingent on an independent mechanic’s inspection, plus the things others have mentioned. Price-wise, it’s tough to evaluate without knowing the market you’re in but personally, I’d go a little high on something like this before I’d even think about the ridiculous prices people are paying for new 4Rs.

FWIW, I paid $19K for my ‘07 V6 Sport in 2014 with 96K miles. It’s at 248K now and hands down the best vehicle I’ve ever owned.

If you're moving to Massachusetts, no need to spend extra money for one that's mint. A few years out here and it'll look terrible underneath, unfortunately. The roads are bad, and they use a ton of road salt in the winter, which eats these right up. Plus a lot of people here have zero cares about giving door dings or parking lot rash.

Which ever one you end up buying, make sure you get it treated with some sort of rust prevention ASAP when you get out here.

And like others have said, even if it has fairly low mileage on it for the years, it's still 18 years old and is probably going to need a lot of rubber bits replaced, as well as all the fluids. You could potentially sink another couple grand into it, at which point you could have bought a 5th gen with close to the same mileage.

As far as price, a co-worker of mine bought a 2005 V8 with 165k on it for about 6 grand earlier this summer. It wasn't mint, but good shape for the area.

Gotdang! 15k for an 18 year old vehicle! It’s like bringatrailer prices. But if that’s your market out there, this is minty clean looking 4runner, so it might be reasonable. When I was looking for 4th gens I tried to look for 2006 or newer due to the head gasket issue. Although the frames around here were all so rusted that I never ended up buying one.

Also, another thing to keep in mind is that the dashboards on these and a bunch of other Toyotas/Lexus around this time period had a habit of cracking pretty bad. I read stories of huge cracks happening one day to the next.
