Bought a 2001 4Runner for my son to leveling kit and some suspension work

Any suggestions where to start?

 

This is my old 2002 with Bilstien 5100 for a 2” suspension lift, i was very happy with it. Oh, and welcome to the forum.

No, i had the shop i use do it.

 

There’s a lot of ways to skin this cat, but probably the most popular quality setup that won’t break the bank is Bilstein 5100s with ARB 2906 or 2890 OME rear springs (2” lift - 2890 for steel bumper, 2906 is for stock weight bumpers) or the OEM Toyota 1999 “tall springs”. You can also order pre-assembled coilovers to save time from plenty of sites, I’ve had good luck with suspensionlifts.com (formally bilsteinlifts.com). Common coilover (front) spring is the ARB OME 2880 for stock weight or 2881 for steel bumper. I wouldn’t go over 2” -2.5,” the Toyota IFS generally has problems 3”+

it’s a real easy DIY project, it won’t take you more than a few hours if you’re handy with a wrench. Plenty of tutorials here, TacomaWorld, and YouTube (check out Timmythetoolman, fabulous resource). Id recommend using the bottle jack to lift the UCA when placing the new coilover rather than the crowbar method, I found it much easier.
