Newbie question - I tinted all windows at 5% and love the look and privacy, but it can be difficult to see pedestrians or other obstacles when making turns at night on dimly lit city streets.

Is it acceptable to use ditch lights in this situation, or would that be rude/annoying to other drivers and people on the road? Want to be safe and would hate to change my tints out...

Thanks in advance for the thoughts!

Aside from being rude and annoying, any ditch lights that would actually help will probably also be illegal, like your tint. Your best bet would be to get the tint removed or replace it with tint that is within the legal limits.

CA would deem them to be for off-road use only, so illegal to use on public roads.

Not to mention, the level of darkness (if you tinted the front driver and passenger) is illegal for multiple safety reasons, and using auxiliary lights to compensate, is all around a horrible idea.

As stated, don't be that guy

But go ahead and get some good ditch lights for rural driving and trail use at night. I really enjoyed having lights on my side atleast mentally give me peace of mind that I will see a deer little early.

My new 4Runner don't have ditch light and this time I'm looking for very low profile ones that still give good light out put and not shine on the hood.

So you made yourself blind by putting on tint that is to dark because you think it looks cool and now you want to blind everyone else to correct your bad decision?

The goal of the tint was to cut down brightness (lots of CA sun) and for privacy more than "looking cool" but thanks for the nice message! lol.

Didn’t realize that your were in CA. Now that I know that I guess it would be ok for ditch lights. You now have my blessing.

I appreciate you asking this question, OP--I've been curious about this as well. The headlights in my 2021 ORP don't have as wide of a throw as I would like, and in dark streets/dirt roads/etc. I can't see anything on the sides of my car. Your window tint might be making it a little worse but it is still an issue without tinted windows.

Thanks mrh - and yea, the narrow throw of the headlights doesn't help!

    Please don’t be offended but…

What a trip. Risking other people’s lives for “the look” and then blinding them with ditch lights as the “finish him” trick.

It’s almost like a scene only Mr. Bean would do.

Super dark tint is a major problem at night. 25-35 max or you wont be able to see at night.

Ditch lights are illegal to use while driving on public roads in most states. Some states require them to be covered on public roads. So no that's not the proper fix.
