Love my new 2023 lunar rock ORP to replace my 2015 classic silver TP but I do have a couple of minor gripes. First the good news is that it came with a heated steering wheel :) But imagine my surprise after I bought it and saw all the manuals for the car just thrown in the glove box without the owner's manual cover that came with the 2015 I used to have so I had to spend my own hard-earned $16 to buy one off of Amazon after buying a rather expensive car already

    Toyota Portfolio.jpg

And evidently the OR and ORP don't come with the metal valve stems on the wheels anymore like the 2015, just the rubber ones - c'mon Toyota how cheap can you be?

And am I the only one that thinks that the current version of the Toyota front all-weather floor mats are cheap junk compared to the older ones? :annoyed: These are the new ones:
    4Runner floor mats_1.jpg

So I was lucky and found a new looking set of the old ones like my 2015 had on eBay and bought these to replace the brand new junk ones :D
    4Runner floor mats_2.jpg

Overall I'm very happy with my new 4Runner ORP and the added technology but it does seem like Toyota is taking cost cutting on small items to the extreme on such a nice vehicle IMHO :(

Manual Portfolio: Pretty standard since it's not a Lexus.

Mats: I prefer the coverage of the new ones. I had them in for years until I found wet carpet so I went with Huskyliners but it's a different issue as to why my floor is wet.

The owner's manual portfolio came standard on my 2015 TP so it's not just a Lexus thing. It's no so much the coverage of the new all-weather mats as much as the cheapness of the look and the materials, and it's probably just me and my OCD but I don't like the rubber cover over the left side dead pedal compared to the mats in my 2015. :notsure:

I think the portfolio is a dealer cheapout.

The old rubber mats do look nicer, but the dead pedal coverage is a requirement in salt country. The new style is a bit annoying with how floppy they are at the edges.

Rubber valve stems? Hmm, that does sound cheap. But I wonder if rubber stems might be more resilient off road, especially with the extra shielding on the OR wheels.

I like the portfolio, wish they came with it. Never got one with a 06 Sienna we bought new, or our current 18 highlander either, and I hate the waterfall of manuals every time I open the glovebox lol.

So what i am guessing, is that you did not look the vehicle over before your purchase?

I agree. Somewhere I still have the dealer checklist that came with my 4R, one element of which was preparing the portfolio. If I recall correctly, each of the booklets in it was individually shrink-wrapped. I was asked to sign off on the completed checklist, among other things.

My 2022 TRD Off-Road came with manuals...one for the vehicle and one just for the infotainment system. And experience has taught me that rubber valve stems are preferable to steel...when the wheel rubs up against a rock or log or whatever on the trail the rubber valve stem is just pushed out of the way. A steel valve stem can't bend - it snaps off and now you've got a flat.

I’d rather buy the vehicle, and then complain, instead of walking away from a unique vehicle that I wanted only because of minor gripes, like no portfolio. Buying a vehicle doesn’t mean a customer can’t find areas for improvement. The dealer doesn’t really care, but the internet can result in some pressure on manufacturers. A bunch of little complaints could add up to “consumer sentiment” that manufacturers feel a need to respond to.

Hmm, I have carpet floor mat in my 2010 SR5, those all weather mats I saw as a nice touch : ) My gripe is that there no OFF switch for headlights and they never go out when engine is stopped and door is still open...

Really? My work Chevy has auto headlights, but they can be overridden. I'd be surprised if there wasn't a way to shut them off in a 4Runner.

My wife called me one night and told me the headlights wouldn't turn off on the JGC after she'd been driving it for 6 months. It had recently been in for service and they move the dial from "auto" to "on" to check if the lights work during inspection (I'd been through it before). She'd messed around for almost an hour before calling me - we had it diagnosed in 5 minutes.

She used to have manual headlights. Crazy how used to "auto" people get with tech and forget how things work

His gripe was not that it didn't come with manuals; that he was not given the pouch to store the manuals in the glovebox. See below:

Durango Dave, If your biggest gripe is rubber valve stems and manual pouches, you are doing pretty good. I just got my 2023 TRD ORP on October 11th. Long time Toyota owner, 1st time 4Runner owner. I would trade metal valve stems and manual pouches all day, and have automatic headlights!! or rain-sense wipers. Or remote start from the factory. Oh, or backup sensors too (not just the camera). Im so afraid of backing into shit all of the time with this rig, and I have the multi-terrain monitor option so I get the aerial view, albeit low definition, of my surroundings. My last SUV (GM product) is a 2008 and had all of this, and more.

My 2023 ORP came with a cover for the manuals. The off road floor mats are just fine IMO. I don't know what valve stems it came with because I ditched the tires and wheels for the TRD Pro black wheels and the off road tires I had on my 2021 trade in. I'm finding hard to bitch about anything about this 4R:)

Unless you bought new TPMS, you probably have the stems from the original tires.

You got a little portfolio for the manuals? No fair! Is it toyota branded? Somebody mentioned here it might be a dealer issue. Are dealers keeping them and selling them on Amazon?!? Lol

That does not surprise me even more regulations. On the flip side I remember maybe five years ago buying some portable gas cans in Canada that had a normal vent and you can actually pour gas. I was shocked they still sold the old school ones then when our regulations changed and had these goofy restrictors

I knew there had to be a catch when I got my 4Runner at MSRP during peak car-pricing mania.

My 2023 SR5 P came with the nice leather portfolio - someone nabbed yours ?

I like the new mats better than the ones you bought as replacements- had those on my Tacoma - and while thicker I like the coverage of the new ones better.

Lmao. My 23 TRD ORP came with the nice leather bound portfolio, the all-weather rubber floor mat & all-weather rubber cargo tray (not the sliding one, Im talking about what we really call a cargo "mat"). However, it did not come with cool trail running boards that I wanted  So I went and bought them. So not only did someone nab your portfolio, but someone nabbed my running boards :D

Just ‘installed’ the manual portfolio… what an upgrade! No more loose manuals rustling about.

In all seriousness, glad the OP posted this thread (else I would’ve never known) and I’m not sweating the $15 it cost — even though it should’ve come with the car.
