Be glad our trucks don't have stop/start, cylinder deactivation and other crap. That's why I bought this

I have a 2016 and keep my spare key in a magnetic hide a key, just like every other car I have had. I don’t want a fancy push button for an off road vehicle. Camping in remote areas and you loose your fancy electric key, what do you do? I guess this is why people are having to buy the metal lock box thing to dangle from the back for when they go surfing and stuff these days. Would just prefer a simple key and not have to worry about people spoofing the code if it is sitting in my house within range of the front door or when locking it in a public garage. That said I wish the key was in the dash and not on steering column.

I personally sought out a physical HKey 4R because i didn't want that stupid shut off feature on remote start. And Secondly, if someone cloned the rf frequencies your shit is gone.

But switching backwards would take quite a bit and it's been already mentioned ECU/BCMs, new ignition, etc.

Just like adding 4wd to 2wd, easiest option maybe is to look for Hkey SR5.

Red is working on retrofitting smart key onto a physical key 4R. You can see how involved it is here

Edit: linked so you can see how involved it is going the other way. I would assume it would be just about the same going backwards
