Generally to maximize investment its best to sell within 5 years or chance it and wait until after 25 years. 10-15 years old seems to be the bottom of value on most vehicles.

At 7 years on my 2016 with only 61k.. I plan on keeping it forever even if I get a new vehicle in the next 3-5 years. I bought my 4Runner knowing that even at 15 years the mechanical investment would be lite compared to most other makes and models. I am on top of maintenance and TLC regarding paint, body, etc. so I expect this thing to roll well into 250k and at this rate that is well over 20 years.

    Oooh look, another mod.....
I plan on selling my 4Runner when the local news anchor says "We've just got a description of the vehicle that police have been looking for and it's a red 4Runner with a stripe down the side."

Only then, will I get rid of the evidence, err....truck.

Sell? I keep vehicles until I'm in danger of having to pay to get rid of them.

I am terrible If I keep a vehicle longer than 2-3 years its a miracle and the part that sucks is I just got a new 2023 ORP and now thinking I want the EV jeep wrangler as I traded in my jeep for the 4runner and I am not 100% happy with it and miss the Jeep

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
The 5th gen at our inception to buy was to be my wife’s vehicle but due to heath reasons she doesn’t drive anymore, she absolutely loves riding in it though.
    I keep vehicles I like …..uhhh……forever.
33yr old Goldie just won quit, doesn’t burn oil, virtually zero blow by and with the TruTrac it wheels pretty good, she is still young at 260k miles.
Cracked dash…yes, body war wounds….yes…..but everything still works!
The 19yr old Dodge’s body will fall apart around the amazing engine but I’ll still fix it. New tow vehicles are stupid expensive.
The next vehicle for me will probably be a walker.

Paid $19K for the 4R and it’s at 248K. I will drive it until either it or I can’t get of the driveway any more.

I only bought the Xterra new b/c it was the last ‘02 on the lot and I got a great deal. Can’t see ever buying new again.

I love people that sell their well maintained cars. I missed the boat on a 9th gen corolla with a manual when they were new, some old lady couldn't drive anymore and gave it to her granddaughter who didn't want to drive a stick, the son of the old lady( the girl's dad) couldn't drive a manual either, sold it, that's how I came into possession of my manual runabout.

Personally I have never willingly sold a Toyota. The only one I have let go so far is a 91 corolla wagon, with 300k miles on the clock, a blown engine, completely faded paint, and the whole car pretty trashed after 2 decades of relentless beating. I have no doubt some exporter threw it on a container ship and it's doing taxi duty in some afghan or pakistan city by now.

I purchased my 4runner after my last car, a 2004 Pathfinder when the transmission finally said enough. Everything still worked on it when I finally had to get rid of it except 3rd, 4th, and 5th gear. No work was done to it except for batteries and tires. I am hoping to get more out of my 4runner.

I'm going to admit, I'm bad about trading. I did buy a 2002 Sequoia new and kept it for 15 years. It is my all time favorite vehicle. I'm trying to work my way into a newer 4Runner with plans on keeping it for a long time. I'm at the age where I need to stop with the constant trading. I'd say on average, I have traded every 2-4 years in the past. I just love a new toy.

Love to see a pic of the civic. That SI was only made in 99 & 00. Pretty special car & engine. Got any pics of the B16 motor? Also, love that electron blue color

Take care of them and hold onto then as long as possible so that it is working for you instead of you working for it.

I have a 2001 Ford 250 with the 7.3 diesel. It has 200k + miles on it. I paid 23k got it new and did not finance it.. It is now 22 years old. So adding maintenance over that time frame of 3k which includes new tires, etc., it has cost me $2,600 a year. Imagine how much money I saved during that time.

I hope it will be around at least another 10 years.

Don’t sell, you will regret it.

Sold my 97’ Tacoma in 18’ and just recently had to pay almost twice to get another 1st gen back in the family. My head hurts from beating it against the wall. :(
