I built and ordered my 2017 MGM Tacoma Limited in Oct of '16 the way I wanted it, and over the years really made it mine with multiple mods and 126,000 miles. Before I decided on the truck I did check out 4runners, but at that time I felt the 4Runner wasn't what I need.

I'm now debating on trading it in for this little bute in about 12 hours, but now having thoughts of if this is a downgrade from what I have...... Smaller and not as capable. I miss the extra cab space as I had before with a 2005 Nissan Xterra Off Road 6 speed manual.upload_2023-11-2_21-48-36.png
Now so confused about switching to 4Runner or staying with the Tacoma.
Is it strange for Tacoma folks to go4run? Will this SUV be a better investment than the Taco?

This 2020 4Runner Venture has 59,909 miles, comes with 7year/100000 drivetrain warranty. Sale price $37,333 with $19,000 trade-in for my Tacoma.

Does this seem like a fare deal?

Welcome from a former 2017 Taco owner.

I’m glad I made the switch… had too many people asking me to help move stuff because I had a truck.

I think the 4.0 is way better than the 3.5 Atkinson

Is that 37k on top of the Taco trade in ??? Make sure to check the under-carriage for rust

Making the switch from a Taco to 2023 ORP ... Dobinson IMS suspension with ~ 2" lift, chrome delete interior and exterior, slim line front bumper with winch install, misc. little mods.
Previous 2003 1st Gen Tacoma and a 2017 3rd Gen Tacoma owner and here I am in a 2023 5th Gen 4Runner. After all the pealing paint issues with my 3rd Gen and assessing how often I actually use the full bed of the Tacoma, I made the switch. Build quality is night and day in favor of he T4R. Do not regret the change at all.

I hope they don't find that you can jam almost as much stuff into a 4R, especially with the seat bottoms removed.

Can you just keep the Tacoma? Because $19k seems low. Do you have time to sell the Tacoma yourself; Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, Car Guru, etc. I sold my 2005 Tundra to first fella that showed up for full price $14500 w/177k miles and I thought I had over priced it. Private party yields higher sale prices. As far as switching to a 4Runner, I’ll I can say is you’re gonna love it, it’s kinda a cult thing almost. Welcome to the forum!

Yep I understand that a private sale would yield more, but I've put some hard miles on her and the body's got some added character. Thanks for the feedback

I had a 2013 Tacoma TRD OR Spruce Mica that I built up with plate bumpers, clicker adjustable suspension all four corners, winch, the whole 9 yards. I loved that truck and would have kept it if I could have afforded to keep both but I sold it in 2021 and picked up a 2019 4Runner TRD OR.

The 4Runner is better in pretty much every single way from disc brakes front and rear, one piece drive shaft and not having to futz with a carrier bearing, the fit and finish on the interior dash and plastics is just more solid, made in Japan (not Mexico like my Tacoma), having the air conditioned, lockable cargo space behind the rear seats for a dog or gear (I was always having to throw shit in the back seat of the Tacoma if I ever stopped anywhere because free stuff in the truck bed may go wandering off with people and their sticky fingers).

If you don't need a truck bed the only thing the 4.0 Tacoma did better than the 4.0 4Runner was the top inverted oil filter location.......whichever engineer decided to put that fucking retarded 2 piece oil filter/housing shit on the 4Runner should be fired.

Thank you all for the replies and insights! I pulled the trigger and was a bit concerned looking out the window of the dealership. (This Pic)

My Tacoma just looked bad ass but with that was a rougher ride and started to get a bit concerned at 110,000 miles because slight oil seepage in front-left engine block. The transmission was always "shifty" but after getting an OVtune that helped allot, but recently noticed a faint rattling sound at highway speeds when down shitting. All that said. I will miss the looks of that Tacoma. However these days at 46 I'm looking more for comfort, long term dependability, and capability with snow, off-roading or just on our property trails in eastern KY.

In just the 80miles hwy/city I've driven the 4Runner and reading the manual, I'm starting to see how the SUV is superior and dam it's comfortable. The 145,000 factory warranty helps too. It will be so much nicer on the long road tips with the wife & dog, were in the Tacoma I would always pull the back sets for the fur babies and then all of my wife's "stuff" was hanging everywhere in the cab. Plus now having a little 10' trailer kind-of takes the need for a pickup bed.
So thanks again all for the comments and feedback. I guess now the next move is to say goodbye to the TW form, and then start with the MODS!:transformer: ..........not really just some aftermarket cabin storage options I'm seeing and maybe some 285/70/17 as I understand very little modification is needed for those shoes.

    Congrats on the purchase!!!

The only thing that I miss about my pickup is the bed. Since you have a trailer, you are all set. I would love a trailer but I don't have anywhere to store it easily. Fortunately, the local Uhaul is 2 miles away and they know me well. I rent a trailer about 4-5 times a year and I rigged up a way to carry up to 16ft. lumber on the roof of the 4Runner. More of a pain to load and unload but overall, I am thrilled. Bonus is the 4Runner fits in the garage with my Jeep and my wife's Accord.
