My wife was totally fine and no one was hurt in the destruction of my beloved 4Runner. This is my 3rd 4Runner and 2nd 5th generation. My wife was hydroplaning on a runabout and pressed her brakes hard to stop. (I had her watch a video on what to do when hydroplaning.) The suv took a direct hit on a couple 12x12 wood posts. On inspection the aluminum bumper was cracked in half but no engine or frame damage was noted. I am concerned that the hit might of effected the passenger side shocks and could effect the X-REAS shock system. I am awaiting a dissection and cost of repair by Tuesday. I would appreciate anyone’s thoughts on how the repair, with the damage, will likely restore her back to 100%. Thank you

I have no idea about the repairs, but just glad nobody got hurt. At the end of the day that is all that matters.

Damn. Your wife lived and posting pics, so yes everything will be ok. Trucks are replaceable. It just sucks to have to.

Send your wife to remedial driving school, that doesn't look like a situation in which she should have crashed. I certainly don't see piles of other crashed cars around her so everyone else was able to make it through unscathed...

The 4Runner will be fine. Looks like you're going to need a fender, bumper, grill, crash bar, and some brackets. As long as the frame isn't bent, it will probably be repairable.

    Glad nobody got hurt.

How fast do you have to be going to hydroplane in a roundabout?

Welcome to the forum and I am glad your wife is OK. Was there any air bags deployed in the accident?

It will be best to post up the estimate once the body\repair shop gives it a good once over.

Maybe there’s a puddle we don’t see, but it doesn’t look like hydroplaning.

Losing traction when it has rained isn’t the same as hydroplaning - this looks more like the results of the road being slick due to rain, and possibly normal oil buildup.

If you tell me a roundabout, rain, and a crash, the first thing that comes to mind is speed. Driving skills could have potentially pulled the car out of the understeer situation, but ironically it would have been easier in something that didn’t have full time AWD.

But all the driving skills in the world can’t save you if you should be going slower.

Still, at least nobody was injured and it was a single car event.

    Oooh look, another mod.....

In the end, all that matters is, your wife is fine. The 4Runner is just a pile of glass & metal, it can be replaced. Family members & Spouses cannot.

If XREAS is damaged, don't repair it. That will save you a ton of money. It's a silly system in the first place that will probably break anyways down the road and it doesn't need to be there.

Replace with some slightly firmer shocks then stock. Bilstein 5100 or Eibach are inexpensive replacements that are great alternatives.

I dislike roundabouts, unless on a motorcycle or sports car. Glad everyone is ok. I hope your repairs go well.

Harsh. All that matters is your wife was not injured, but I'm guessing around $10-15K in repairs.

Would it be harsh if instead of the pole she hit your kid walking home from school?

If someone crashes in that scenario - a damp road on a slow speed roundabout - the only fucking thing she should be driving is a rickshaw.

I like roundabouts. I do not like people who don't know how to use them. And, unfortunately it seems that a lot of people don't know how to use them.

Traffic lights are fine for high traffic areas.
