New from PNW

Hello from the PNW. I live in Oregon and am a retired ASE Master Tech and ASE Service Consultant. I am also a Vietnam Vet. I currently own a 2005 Z71 Tahoe and my girl owns a 2002 TrailBlazer. I am wanting to get her a 4th gen 4Runner. I can find plenty reasonable priced 200k+ rigs and vehicles that have 125k miles or less that are made of gold.
I am familiar with the 1GR-FE 4.0 engines. I still do work at my house and limit myself to a select clientele and one of them owns a 2008 4Runner and have done some work to it and a fellow American Legion member friend of mine owns a 2010 FJ Cruiser, that I am currently doing a timing chain replacement to. I have found the differences in the 2 engines and that has made the timing chain job proportionally more difficult but I am not a quitter.
I want to learn all I can about the 4th gen 4Runner and keep on the lookout for the right one for my girl. Thanks for allowing my joining to this forum.

Thanks for the welcome. I am open to any recommendations on the best or better years of the 4th gen 4Runners. I am leaning toward the 08 and 09 years because, like my 05 Tahoe being the next to last year of the NBS Tahoe's and having most of the kinks worked out, I have read that the same holds true for the last 2 years of the 4th gen 4Runners. I am sold on the 4.0 engine as a strong reliable engine and like that it is a chain instead of a timing belt.

@r32, what part of the PNW are you in? I am in the Willamette Valley of Oregon.

Best part of my time in the service 71 thru 75, was that I was on flight skins and got to fly off the carrier I was on, USS Kitty Hawk CV63. That is a rush I have never had before that or after.
